As artificial intelligence continues to reshape how people create, communicate and connect, South African artist Stephen Gawking is stepping into the conversation with a song that asks an important question: what makes creativity uniquely human?

That question sits at the core of Manna, his latest single featuring acclaimed vocalist Eva Morgan and renowned rock performer Mark Haze. Available on all major streaming platforms from 19 June, the release arrives at a time when technology and artistry are increasingly intersecting.

Known as The Nuclear Lyricist, Stephen Gawking has earned recognition for crafting songs that blend meaningful storytelling with messages of resilience, hope and perseverance. Living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2, he has turned personal adversity into creative purpose, inspiring listeners to look beyond limitations and focus on possibilities.

With Manna, Stephen delivers one of his most reflective and timely works. Built around cinematic pop production and emotionally charged performances, the song explores themes of authenticity, inspiration and the search for meaning in an increasingly digital world. Rather than rejecting technological advancement, the track examines how innovation can coexist with the emotional depth that has always defined great art.

“‘Manna’ is a reflective pop song about searching for light in uncertain times,” says Stephen. “While acknowledging the rise of AI and its influence on art, the song affirms that technology can be embraced without replacing what makes creativity truly powerful, the human soul behind it.”

Drawing inspiration from the biblical concept of manna, the song uses the symbol as a metaphor for inspiration, purpose and those unexpected moments of clarity that arrive when they are needed most. It speaks to the universal search for meaning and direction amid uncertainty.

To realise this vision, Stephen brought together two artists whose careers have been defined by authenticity and emotional connection.

Mark Haze, celebrated for his commanding stage presence and signature blend of rock, soul and blues, joined the project during what began as a practical recording collaboration. As the creative process unfolded, he found himself increasingly drawn to the song’s message and themes.

“The song speaks about searching and finding one’s way back to the centre to fill a void,” says Mark. “It is about finding that manna which nourishes the soul. In a world where everyone is constantly searching for the next thing, we often forget to appreciate the blessings already in front of us.”

Eva Morgan

Eva Morgan, widely regarded as one of South Africa’s most versatile vocalists, brings warmth, elegance and emotional depth to the recording. Following her previous collaboration with Stephen on Bubblegum Milkshake, she once again demonstrates the vocal artistry and sensitivity that have made her a respected performer both locally and internationally.

“I loved working on this song,” says Eva. “I had space to showcase my true vocal passion with an incredible melody and beautiful lyrics.”

Together, the trio creates a track that feels both contemporary and timeless. Produced by Bobby Johnson and co-produced by Stephen Gawking, Manna combines polished modern production with heartfelt storytelling, creating an experience that encourages listeners to pause and reflect.

More than a song about technology, Manna is a meditation on creativity, gratitude, faith, connection and the enduring strength of the human spirit. At a time when society is increasingly fascinated by what machines can achieve, Stephen Gawking, Mark Haze and Eva Morgan offer a compelling reminder that the most meaningful art still begins with human experience.

As technology continues to evolve and creative boundaries expand, perhaps the bigger question is not what artificial intelligence can create, but whether it can ever truly replicate the lived experiences, emotions and imperfections that give art its soul.

A New Chapter: The Evolution of ‘Falling Joy’

Released today, 8 May, alongside a fresh music video, The Fismits’ latest single, “Independence,” serves as the second milestone on the road to their upcoming EP, Falling Joy (arriving 26 June). While the previous single “Scars” laid down the project’s emotional foundation, “Independence” takes a bold step forward. It is more than just a sequel; it is a shift in direction—exploratory, unpredictable, and deeply revealing.

Breaking the Indie-Alternative Mould

The track is a departure from the band’s traditional sound, trading standard riffs for electronic textures, looping rhythms, and a subtle new-wave pulse. While the familiar indie-alternative roots are still visible, they now support a more fluid, expansive sonic identity. It’s the sound of a project refusing to stay inside a box.

From the Archive to the Present

The story behind “Independence” spans decades. Originally written in the early 1990s and tucked away in The Mind Theatre archives, the song held onto its potential for over thirty years. Rather than treating it as a vintage relic or a nostalgic throwback, Mark Biagio chose to completely reimagine the track. This isn’t just a revival; it’s a total transformation.

Experimentation in the Studio

Recorded during sessions throughout 2024 and 2025 at Dirty Badger Music, the production reflects a raw, instinctual approach. Biagio—who handled production, mixing, and mastering; prioritised experimentation over polish. The result is a dynamic arrangement that breathes, moving effortlessly between quiet restraint and powerful release.

A Modern Lens on a Mid-90s Legacy

Within the context of the Falling Joy EP, “Independence” bridges the gap between the past and the future. The project revisits Bruce Barrett’s mid-1990s material, but filters it through the lens of modern experience. It isn’t just archival work being dusted off; it is old soul-searching reconstructed for a new era.

The Fismits reimagine ‘Independence’ with electronic energy. Stream or download it now on all platforms.

The Arc of the Artist

As the project moves toward its final singles, “When,” “Too Small A Word,” and the title track “Falling Joy“, a clear emotional arc is forming. It is a journey from reflection toward resolution, though that resolution is left open for the listener to interpret.

Since their formation in 2016, The Fismits have transitioned from a three-piece band into a focused creative vessel for Biagio’s vision. While past releases like Halen (2024) documented their growth, “Independence” feels like their most definitive statement yet: a commitment to following creative instinct over industry expectations.

The Lingering Question

In a world that often rewards the familiar, “Independence” asks a difficult question: When a song carries decades of history, does reinventing it strengthen its soul, or does it risk erasing the very spark that made it special? For The Fismits, the risk itself seems to be the point.

Into that space steps Dylan Tori with ‘Light Up Your Soul‘, a track that doesn’t try to be bigger than it needs to be. It just feels real.

Released on 24 April and produced by Mark Beling, the song carries a warm, familiar energy. You can hear the influence of Motown, blended with Americana and a touch of country blues rock. It feels classic in places, but never outdated. It sits comfortably between old and new without forcing the balance.

At its core, ‘Light Up Your Soul’ is about showing up for someone when it matters. Not in a dramatic way, but in the quiet moments that often mean the most. The message is simple. Be there. Stay present. Offer something steady when everything else feels uncertain. It is the kind of theme that lands because it is real.

Vocally, Dylan keeps things grounded. He does not overreach or try to impress for the sake of it. The emotion comes through naturally, and that makes it believable. You get the sense that he understands the story he is telling, and that gives the performance weight.

The production follows that same thinking. It is polished enough to sound complete, but not so polished that it loses its character. There is space in the track, and that space allows the emotion to breathe. It feels like a collaboration where both artist and producer understood what the song needed, and more importantly, what it did not need.Looking beyond the track, it does raise a bigger question. Where does music like this fit in the current South African landscape? Are audiences making room for songs that value honesty over hype? Or are we still leaning towards what feels safe and commercially predictable?

With years behind him, Dylan Tori sounds like someone who has stopped chasing trends and started trusting his own direction. The question now is whether listeners are willing to meet him there, and whether there is still space in the market for music that chooses substance over noise.

Steyn City, Johannesburg — Castle Lite has used the stage of LIV Golf South Africa 2026 to launch their latest innovation officially: Draught in a Can. A new product innovation designed to bring the crisp and refreshing draught experience traditionally only enjoyed at a bar into a convenient can that can be enjoyed anywhere.

The launch took place on the opening day of the tournament at Steyn City, where thousands of fans gathered for the inaugural LIV Golf event in South Africa. With global attention focused on the event, Castle Lite chose the moment to introduce the innovation that aims to extend the draught experience beyond traditional on-tap environments.

For the first time, the smooth and crisp taste South Africans love about Castle Lite Draught will now be available in a portable format, allowing consumers to enjoy the brand’s signature invigorating draught experience in more settings.

A Dramatic Fan Village Reveal

The unveiling was staged as a dramatic on-site moment at the Castle Lite setup in the Fan Village.

In a cinematic sequence played across the venue, Pieter-Steph du Toit, one of South Africa’s most recognisable athletes, arrived carrying a sealed trophy case. At most global sporting events, a case like that would be expected to hold silverware.

Instead, the case contained Castle Lite’s newest innovation.

Du Toit was joined on stage by Castle Lite ambassador Juicy Jay, before the case was opened by Castle Lite Brand Director Colleen Duvenage, revealing Castle Lite Draught in a Can to fans attending the event.

The reveal was accompanied by music and on-site fan celebrations, with attendees among the first in the country to taste the product following its launch.

Maintaining the Castle Lite Draught Experience

Castle Lite has long positioned itself as one of South Africa’s most loved beer brands, known for its distinctive serving ritual and its extra-cold refreshing temperature, brewed at -2.5°C.

According to the brand, Draught in a Can has been developed to maintain the smoothness and quality of draught beer while offering greater convenience and accessibility to more South Africans.

Duvenage said the launch at LIV Golf South Africa provided the ideal platform for the introduction of the new product.

“As South Africa’s favourite draught, we knew there was an opportunity to keep raising the bar. LIV Golf South Africa gave us a stage that matches our ambition — where fans gather to celebrate sport, music and culture. Draught in a Can brings the smooth and crisp draught experience people love into a convenient new format designed for more occasions and more places.”

Part of a Broader Fan Engagement Strategy

Castle Lite has historically aligned itself with large-scale cultural and sporting moments in South Africa, and has built a reputation for creating fan-focused experiences around major events.

At LIV Golf South Africa, Castle Lite has established a dedicated Fan activation zone where spectators can experience the brand throughout the tournament weekend.

The launch of Draught in a Can forms part of a broader fan engagement strategy, with the brand aiming to turn the tournament environment into a social experience for fans attending the event.

National Rollout

Following its exclusive unveiling at LIV Golf South Africa, Castle Lite Draught in a Can will be rolled out nationally, making the new product available to all consumers.

For Castle Lite, the launch marks a significant step in the evolution of its draught offering.

More than a product introduction, the brand says the innovation represents the next chapter in how more South Africans experience draught beer.

Both nights showcased artists at the top of their game, with seamless sets that kept energy levels soaring and dance floors alive until the end. Attendees and critics alike have shared glowing reviews, praising the flawless execution and the fusion of international and local sounds that captured the essence of South Africa’s dynamic electronic community.

“The incredible list of local supporting acts we assembled for Johannesburg and Cape Town truly showcased the depth and diversity of South Africa’s electronic music talent,” said Richard Marshall, Director of Sub Sahara, fabric’s partner on the continent. “These shows were electric, blending fabric’s 25-year legacy of world-class curation with the raw energy and creativity of local artists. It was a game-changer for dance music fans, creating connections that transcended borders and ignited the dancefloor like never before.”

As the dust settles on this landmark tour, the success of fabric London in South Africa stands as a testament to the power of global musical exchange and the vibrancy of the local electronic music community.

Netflix prepares audiences for a climactic conclusion to its globally acclaimed sci-fi saga, a story that redefined nostalgic horror and reawakened the spirit of 1980s supernatural storytelling.

The Duffer Brothers return to the haunting town of Hawkins — fractured, quarantined, and teetering on the brink of annihilation.
This closing season promises a relentless battle against Vecna and a profound exploration of loyalty, loss, and human endurance. Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven steps into a “warrior state,” consumed by her mission to protect the friends she calls family.

This seven-part series blends gripping crime drama with sharp, witty social commentary, exploring the high-stakes survival and glossy illusions of influencer culture.

In a city built on appearances, two women are drawn into a dangerous double life: one online, the other in Jo’burg’s underworld. BK (Jo-Anne Reyneke), a street-smart single mother, hustles to protect her son, while destiny places her alongside Pinky (Cindy Mahlangu), a rising influencer brimming with ambition and chaos. Both broken in their own ways, they forge a combustible partnership that thrives on risk.

Together, BK and Pinky navigate Jo’burg’s counterfeit economy, selling fake luxury handbags. Fame and fraud blur, likes and lies swap places, and survival demands walking a knife-edge between heart and hustle.

Scheduled to premiere on 20 June 2025, the film promises a heartfelt, sharply funny exploration of marriage, ambition, and the complexity of forever after.

Jaci (Anel Alexander) and JP (Nico Panagio) return, their once fairy-tale romance now tested by real-world demands. As personal aspirations clash and family expectations loom, the pair must navigate what “happily ever after” truly demands.

Image Caption: JP and Jaci, played by Nico Panagio and Anel Alexander in Semi-Soeter, launch on 20 June 2025

Love, Lies, And Legacy

Several years into their marriage, Jaci and JP appear to have it all. Yet, behind the polished exterior simmers growing tension. The expectation to start a family weighs heavily, amplified by well-meaning inquiries and unspoken pressures neither is fully prepared to confront.

When a lucrative business opportunity lands in their laps, it seems their dreams are finally aligning — until JP’s ruthless former school rival Joubert (Neels van Jaarsveld) resurfaces, determined to claim both the deal and his place at the top.

A Scheme To Outshine The Competition

With everything on the line, Jaci, JP, and their loyal business partners, Hertjie (Louw Venter) and Karla (Sandra Vaughn), craft an elaborate scheme to outwit their competition. What begins as a harmless lie swiftly unravels, exposing insecurities and forcing the couple to confront the hard truths of love, ambition, and identity.

More Than Just A Sequel

Co-written by Anel Alexander and Sandra Vaughn, and directed by Joshua Rous, Semi-Soeter is no simple follow-up. Picking up where the charm left off, the sequel brings added depth, sharper laughs, and high-stakes emotional drama. Familiar faces like Diaan Lawrenson as the blissfully quirky Chadrie and screen legend Hélène Truter as the razor-tongued Marietjie ensure that fans of the original will feel right at home while the story stakes out new, bolder ground.

Synopsis

The sequel to the 2012 hit Semi-Soet sees Jaci and JP battling not only external forces but the fragility within their own relationship. Career ambitions, family demands, and a web of well-intentioned deceptions force them to reevaluate what truly matters. Is their marriage built to last, or is it time to redefine their fairy tale?
