Master Harold… and the Boys.

In Celebrating the Fugard Theatre’s 10th birthday year, and also what was looked forward as their 2020 season, their production of Master Harold… and the Boys, was postponed due to the Lockdown, also enforced across the whole of South Africa. But this did not stop the producers from their dream to have this production seen, and decided to live stream it on their website, which, through this platform, will enable this production to be seen worldwide, and not restricting it to only the Cape Townians.

Master Harold and the Boys stars Kai Luke Brummer, Desmond Dube and Siya Mayola, to name only a few. Presented by Eric Abraham and The Fugard Theatre, Master Harold and the Boys, as directed by Greg Karvellas, will continue to stream, until 20 April 2020.

Cirque du Soleil

Normally, meaning during a life without viral outbreaks and necessities like Social Distancing, the worldwide success which is Cirque du Soleil, brings about 20 productions to life around the world, which add up to their variety of shows being seen already by more than 160 million people, over 400 cities, 60 countries, 6 continents, and 1 World.

In a press release, the Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group stated that since the current outbreak, they have taken rigorous measures to protect its work teams, as well as the public. Because of their priority being focused on the hearth and safety of their artists, their partners, employees, and their audiences, all touring groups and resident productions has been temporarily suspended during the global need for Social distancing.

But, there are some Good News. There are currently three shows streaming on their Cirque Connect page, which will give audiences around the globe some fantasy out of their living rooms, to escape through their streaming offerings. For those like us, who fancies a glimpse of the backstage shenanigans, there is also a 180-degree virtual tour, to get your curiosity fix.

From Easter Sunday, by invitation of the City and of the Duomo cathedral of Milan, Italian global music icon Andrea Bocelli gives a solo performance representing a message of love, healing and hope to Italy and the world, through an online streaming concert.

The repertoire includes areas like Panis Angelicus, Ave Maria, Sancta Maria, Domine Deus, and what we all need now, Amazing Grace. A Hymn Sheet to sing along with, is also available for download, to make this streaming concert more interactive.

Bocelli, with the foundation that carries his name, is also involved in their own emergency Corona Virus Campaign, and is raising funds through The Andrea Bocelli Foundation, to help hospitals with the acquiring of instrumentation, equipment, and of course, protection gear for the medical staff. Audiences of this streaming concert, may donate to this fund, which can be seen as buying the ticket for his show.

1. Jogging with ankle weights

I learnt this trick from my ballet teacher when I was young. She would make us wear them for half the class then take them off. We would feel stronger and so much lighter once we took them off. That’s exactly how I feel after a 30-minute jog (outdoors or on the spot at home) with them on.

2. Using resistance bands

The name speaks for itself. Anything is a little bit harder with resistance. If you’re doing cardio, this helps tone and build muscle instead of just losing weight. When using resistance bands during a workout you tend to feel more muscle activation than if you were doing an exercise without them.

3. Pilates

The full body workout and core strengthening from pilates is insane! Pilates is also a great way to focus on and understand how to breathe better during workouts. Joining a pilates class with an instructor is great, but, it’s really easy to find great pilates instruction videos on Youtube that you can then work from in the comfort of your own home. All you need is a bit of space and an exercise mat. You can of course head out (after lockdown, of course) and get all the bells and whistles (such as gliders, pilates ring and more) to take your pilates session to the next level.

4. Moving push-ups

I promise this isn’t just for soldiers in the army! This exercise begins by getting yourself into the plank position, and from here moving your weight slowly from the left shoulder to the right, and repeating. This is a great way to strengthen your upper body and develop gorgeous and defined shoulders.

5. Keeping your peach tight with glute kickbacks

Glute kickbacks are one of my favourite exercises to keep your booty in great shape. They’re really easy to do from home.

1. Get onto all fours, with a straight spine, and contract your core muscles
2. Extend your right leg back and up until your thigh is parallel with the ground. The sole of your right foot should be facing the ceiling
3. Contract your glute at the top of the move and hold for a beat
4. Return to your starting position without touching your knee to the ground and repeat
5. Do 12 to 20 repetitions, then switch sides.

Add a weight or ankle weights to take this exercise to the next level.

Most importantly, when doing any kind of workout at home (or anywhere, for that matter) be sure to always stay hydrated.

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) officially announced that the SAFTAs (South African Film and Television Awards), will be hosted on the 27^th and 28^th of March 2020 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Gauteng. Having had a stint at Sun City in the North-West Provinces the SAFTAs are back in the city of gold. The NFVF, as the custodians of the SAFTAs mandated by the Department of Sports Arts and Culture, is proud to present the 14^th instalment of these awards that recognises and honours South African talent, under the #LoveSATalent banner.

Over a two-day extravaganza, the industry will gather to once again witness the celebration and reward of the golden horn, as decided by a panel of over 200 judges. In a process that is run independent of any interference from the NFVF, the industry is called upon to make submissions in different categories and judging panels bear the heavy task of reviewing, debating and ultimately choosing the worthy nominees and ultimate winners.

This mammoth undertaking of running the industry awards would not be possible each year without the support of broadcast partners, commercial entities, as well as strategic partners who come on board to ensure that the industry gets the recognition they have worked hard for and the celebration they deserve.
