M-Net has fantastic news for dating show fanatics and the country’s obsessed #BachelorNation. After the channel’s two massively successful seasons of The Bachelor South Africa, a leading lady will now take centre stage.

The local version of the global franchise spin-off series, The Bachelorette South Africa, is already in pre-production and the identity of the country’s “rose like no other” will be revealed later this week.

“Choosing our first Bachelorette was a daunting task,” says M-Net’s Head of Publicity, Lani Lombard. “Even though it’s not a hard-and-fast rule, it is customary for the spin-off programme to pick a lady from previous Bachelor seasons.

“In this regard, we’re spoilt for choice. Both seasons featured many stunning ladies who could easily step into this coveted role and we know how fans fervently rooted for their favourites on social media. Behind the scenes, we were also contacted by other potential Bachelorettes with strong credentials, but who did not appear on the show,”.

While South Africa is waiting for M-Net and production company Rapid Blue to reveal its first Bachelorette, single guys should get ready to put their names forward if they wish to become part of the love journey with this vivacious woman. Entries for the show will open immediately after her name is disclosed.

Since 2003, when the first US season of The Bachelorette was launched, the popular gender-reversed spin-off of The Bachelor has been produced in numerous countries, including Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Finland and India. The recent first season in New Zealand also had the tongues wagging. Instead of having one Bachelorette, the Kiwis picked two!

M-Net is planning to have The Bachelorette Season 1 on its schedule early next year, with filming taking place as soon as possible in 2020.

From Scott Rudin Productions and Fox 21 Television Studios, and Created by Elwood Reid, this epic eight-part series Is based on Annie Proulx’s New York Times Bestselling Novel, Barkskins. Featuring a stellar ensemble cast led by David Thewlis and Marcia Gay Harden, viewers will be transported to 17th-Century New France in a story filled with mystery, drama and grit.

Barkskins examines the mysterious massacre of settlers in the vast and unforgiving wilds of 1690s New France that threatens to throw the region into all-out war. National Geographic’s new eight-part limited series, Barkskins, created by Elwood Reid and based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Annie Proulx, transports viewers to the wild frontier of the late 17th century. Barkskins premieres Thursday 13 August at 21:00 (CAT) on National Geographic (DStv 181, StarSat 220) with a double bill of episodes each week.

Barkskins is set in Wobik, a small settlement in what is now the Canadian province of Quebec. As the Catholic Church sends Jesuit priests to convert the indigenous people, France sends indentured servants to populate its territory, along with Filles Du Roi, young women to be matched with husbands, start families and help the colonies prosper. This disparate group of outcasts, rogues and innocents must navigate brutal hardships, competing interests and tangled loyalties at the crossroads of civilization: 1690s New France.

The series tells a thrilling story of exploration, adventure and ambition among dreamers and fighters — some with a utopian vision of the world, others crass and conniving, but all navigating the perils of a treacherous new frontier. As tensions escalate, unlikely alliances are forged, old antagonisms deepen, and new families are formed against the seemingly endless natural riches and hidden dangers of the new American continent. Barkskins’ depiction of the collision between civilisation and commerce is timeless, as is its spirit of adventure, natural wonder and survival of the fittest.

Premiering globally in 172 countries and 43 languages, the eight-episode historical fiction limited series hails from Fox 21 Television Studios and Scott Rudin Productions. The series stars David Thewlis as Claude Trepagny, Marcia Gay Harden as Mathilde Geffard, Aneurin Barnard as Hamish Goames, James Bloor as Charles Duquet, Christian Cooke as Rene Sel, David Wilmot as Constable Bouchard, Thomas M. Wright as Elisha Cooke, Tallulah Haddon as Melissande, Kaniehtiio Horn as Mari, Lily Sullivan as Delphine and Zahn McClarnon as Yvon.

Series creator Reid also serves as showrunner and executive producer. Scott Rudin, Garrett Basch, Eli Bush, David Slade and Proulx are also executive producers.

Proulx is the author of eight books, including the novel The Shipping News and the story collection Close Range. Her many honours include a Pulitzer Prize, a National Book Award, the Irish Times International Fiction Prize and a PEN/Faulkner Award. Her story Brokeback Mountain,” which originally appeared in The New Yorker, was adapted into the Academy Award-winning film.

In die rolverdeling is Andahr Cotton as Adam Prinsloo, Lee Visagie as Christa en Gérard Rudolf as Frans Prinsloo, Adam se pa. ‘n Paar talentvolle spelers wat ‘n welkome terugkeer tot televisiedrama maak, sluit in Philip Moolman, Elma Postma, Vuyelwa Mpela, Hanli Rolfes en Bertha le Roux-Wahl. Ander in die rolverdeling is Carla-Marie Myburgh as Wanda, Natassja Pretorius as Yvette en Huey Louw as Hannes.

The highly anticipated event that was scheduled to take place at the Artscape Opera House from 13 to 18 July 2020 has taken a leap into the online space and will now be held virtually. A virtual ballet competition first, the SAIBC Online will now have a far broader reach as dancers, teachers and ballet fans from every corner of the globe are able to connect to it via the web.

While the competition is still six weeks away, no-one knows which Lockdown level the World will be under by mid-July and, even if mass gatherings will be allowed, social distancing will likely be the advised safety protocol for the foreseeable future.

For the SAIBC Online, ages and categories for participants will remain the same: Scholars (12 to 15 years), Juniors (16 to 20 years) and Seniors (21 to 28 years) with men and women competing separately. Due to the dancers not being able to rehearse in studios during the lockdown, the competition panel will award the top prize in each category by an evaluation process as opposed to the usual scoring system. During the competition week, the panelists will also be giving each entrant constructive feedback after their variation has been viewed.

Each competitor will need to register for the SAIBC Online between 15th and 17th June and those accepted into the competition will then be required to submit video clips of themselves dancing two variations – a classical repertoire solo and a contemporary solo. The dances must be filmed one week prior to the start of the competition. Those without access to a formal dance studio will be permitted to enter in the contemporary division only. The pre-recorded videos of selected candidates will be screened daily to a paying audience and dancers will be assessed by a panel who will offer feedback after each session.

The 2020 Panel is again made up of lauded industry names such as:

Ted Brandsen; Director Dutch National Ballet in The Netherlands who will also be the Panel Chair,

Runqiao Du; the Artistic Director of the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, USA,

Roberta Martins; Zurich Dance Academy in Zurich, Switzerland,

Thoriso Magongwa; The National Theatre of Brno in Prague, Czech Republic,

Christian Spuck; Artistic Director of The Zurich Ballet in Zurich, Switzerland,

Professor Geung Soo KIM; President of the Ballet Society in South Korea,

Feng Ying; Director from the National Ballet of China in Beijing;

Martha Iris Fernandez Aguero; National Ballet School in Havana, Cuba,

Annarella Sánchez; The Annarella Institute of Ballet & Dance in Portugal,

Christoph Böhm; The Berlin State Ballet School in Germany.

Interesting to note that dancers will not be scored but evaluated and prizes will include a grand prize for the best entrant overall, as well as bursaries and scholarships to some of the best ballet schools and summer intensive programmes in the dance world.

SAIBC Online subscribers will be able to access the daily online master classes, Live panel discussions and feedback after the competition rounds and the virtual gala on the 18 July where guest artists from around the world will perform especially for the finale performance.

Registration forms, guidelines and related info can be found on www.saibc.com and applicants should please email their video submissions to saibconline@gmail.com.
Trackers deftly interweaves three story strands into a sophisticated action-packed thriller that covers the length and breadth of the country, explosively colliding in Cape Town in a violent conspiracy involving organized crime, smuggled diamonds, state security, black rhinos, the CIA and an international terrorist plot.

Fairy-tale ending for The Bachelor SA Season 2 as Marc chooses Marisia.

In a special season finale of M-Net’s popular reality dating series The Bachelor SA, Bachelor Marc Buckner handed the final rose and beautiful Jack Friedman ring to shy speech therapist Marisia van Wyk as a symbol of his love and commitment. The dreamy fairy-tale moment took place behind a spectacular African sunset, at the five-star luxury game reserve, Kapama.

During the final Rose Ceremony, Marc had the tough choice of choosing between his final two ladies, Bridget and Marisia. In an interview with Jason, Marc mentioned that he will be basing his final decision on whether he can see himself growing and having a family with the chosen one. Unfortunately for 31-year-old travel agent Bridget, her love journey with Marc had come to an end. During the intense emotional break-up, Marc reminisced on their journey together and why he fell in love with her before breaking the devastating news, “But, our journey does end here,” he said. Bridget was at a loss for words and held back the tears as she thanked Marc and wished him and Marisia well.

As Marisia arrived – ambivalent of what was about to happen – Marc knew that he made the right decision. Marc looked into her eyes and confessed his love for her, “Marisia, you know the first thing I noticed is how beautiful you are. And then, you made it so difficult to get to know you, because you ran away from me. And then we went on our dates together, and every second I spent with you I wanted to spend more time with you, and that date when you came off the horse, it triggered something in me and I realised how much I care for you. I think we make a great couple. And, I don’t want this journey to end with you,”. He reached for his pocket and pulled out a gorgeous custom-designed pear-shaped one-carat diamond ring from Jack Friedman and said “I really am falling for you, and I want to ask if you will accept this as a symbol of a relationship that I think is so amazing and I would like it to keep going forward,” to which an emotional Marisia responded, “I will”. A romantic kiss followed and her confession of love “Okay, so, uhm wow, I don’t have words. I think I came onto this journey, and uhm yoh it’s been tough. But if anything, I’ve really fallen for you. And, I don’t know, there’s just something with you that I have never felt with anyone before, which is good for me. And I know there is this age gap, but it doesn’t really mean anything to me because I think my feelings for you mean so much more. So, I just want to focus on that and focus on us and then hopefully grow together,” and emotional Marisia said before they romanced into the sunset.

The fairy-tale continues for the loveable couple, who have been spending lockdown together, “We both thought it would be a great idea to move in together during lockdown. Because you know, when you’re not seeing each other and it’s the beginning of a relationship, it’s hard to build that trust and to have that trust going without knowing that that person’s there. Because you can imagine, any relationship, in the beginning, you spend as much time together as possible,”. Viewers also got a sneak peek into their lives, as Marc and Marisia shared special video moments of their daily routine and what they have been up to since their dreamy moment in Kapama.

The Bachelor SA Season 2 was screened every Thursday at 19:00 on M-Net Channel 101. DStv Premium viewers can also catch all the romance on Catch Up or stream the episodes live via their mobile devices on DStv Now.
