Cape Town, 16 October 2026: Stop. Turn around. Change direction. Keep going. The signs we encounter every day may be designed for the road, but this October, young people from Mitchells Plain and the Cape Flats will give them a whole new meaning as they explore the choices and challenges shaping their lives.

Liberty Promenade’s annual Next Generation Musical Showcase will return on Saturday, 24 October 2026 for its 15th year, bringing learners together for a celebration of music, movement, storytelling and creative expression.

This year’s theme, En Route to Change, will challenge participating schools to use familiar street signs as inspiration for performances exploring the decisions young people face as they navigate school, friendships, family, personal growth and the digital world.

Turning Signs Into Stories

From stop signs and warnings to arrows pointing towards a new destination, learners will reimagine the signs around them as symbols of the different directions life can take.

Through music, poetry, storytelling and performance, groups of five to eight learners from each school will transform the stage into their own journey. Themes may include decision-making, resilience, responsibility, online behaviour, uncertainty and the freedom to change direction when the path ahead no longer feels right.

At the heart of the theme is a simple message: signs may point the way, but young people ultimately have a choice about the direction they take.

The creativity will also extend beyond the stage. Each school will create a street-sign-inspired installation reflecting its interpretation of choice, life experiences and safer online behaviour. These will be displayed at Liberty Promenade, giving the wider community an opportunity to engage with the learners’ messages.

Following the showcase, the creations will form part of a Community Choice exhibition, where shoppers will be able to vote for their favourite school performance and creation, while also standing a chance to win R10,000.

Young Voices, Big Ideas

Participating schools will compete for a share of R80,000 in cash prizes, up from R60,000 in 2025, which will support improvements and educational needs at the winning schools. For Liberty Promenade, however, the value of Next Generation also lies in giving young people an audience for what they have to say.

“Every year, these learners remind us just how much young people have to say when they are given the opportunity and the freedom to express it in their own way,” says Brenda Bibby, General Manager of Liberty Promenade. “This year’s theme is particularly relevant because young people are making choices in a world that can be difficult and noisy. We want Next Generation to remind them that their voices matter, their choices matter and changing direction can sometimes be an important part of moving forward.”

The 13 participating schools are Beacon School for LSEN, Caradale Primary School, Cascade Primary School, Eastville Primary School, Eisleben Road Primary School, Jamaicaweg Primary School, Lentegeur School for LSEN, Mondale High School, Oval North High School, Portland High School, Rocklands High School, Spine Road High School and West End Primary School.

The Next Generation Musical Showcase will start at 10:00 AM in Liberty Promenade’s Food District on Saturday, 24 October. There is no cost to attend, but visitors are encouraged to arrive early as seating is limited.

The View introduces a different way to experience Fourways Mall, with an emphasis on beautiful surroundings, quality experiences and aspirational places where people can spend time together. From early morning coffee and leisurely lunches to Pilates sessions, pampering, sundowners and dinner with friends, the destination has been designed to become part of everyday life in Fourways, while offering an experience worth travelling for.

Located on the corner of Cedar and Witkoppen Roads, the R100 million development forms part of the successful transformation of Fourways Mall, which is 50% owned by JSE-listed Accelerate Property Fund. The investment supports the broader strategy to strengthen the Mall’s position as a leading retail, entertainment and lifestyle destination. Connected to the mall’s expansive 182,000m² footprint, The View offers a new way to spend time in Fourways, whether for a morning coffee, lunch with friends, a wellness appointment or a luxurious evening out.

A Destination Designed Around the Experience

Contemporary architecture, clean lines, refined finishes and thoughtfully designed interiors create an inviting environment that encourages visitors to slow down and enjoy their surroundings. A three-level atrium brings light and openness into the development, while the combination of indoor and outdoor spaces encourages relaxed dining and socialising. Each restaurant and store brings its own character and design personality, contributing to a destination that feels cohesive without losing the individuality of its brands.

Dining is a particular highlight, with an impressive selection of restaurants and cafés catering to different occasions and tastes. The much-anticipated arrival of tashas brings its signature all-day dining experience to Fourways, with interiors inspired by the Aegean and a menu celebrating fresh ingredients and the pleasure of sharing good food.

Another standout addition is Pantry by Marble, one of Johannesburg’s most sought-after food and lifestyle concepts, bringing its distinctive high-end offering to Fourways for the first time.

Other dining options include Fournos, Nossa Casa, Nonnas Riviera, Banchan, George’s Grill and Clay Cafe, where visitors can combine a creative experience with a relaxed outing. Gelato Mania adds a sweet treat to the mix, while Food Lover’s Market and Liquor Lane bring premium food shopping and everyday convenience into the offering.

Beauty and wellness are equally important to The View’s appeal. Mangwanani offers an opportunity to unwind, while Glow Theory, Popsicle Nails, The Piercery and The Laser Beautique provide a range of beauty and personal care experiences. Loamari Pilates adds a fitness dimension, making it possible to combine a morning workout with breakfast, shopping or a coffee date.

Petworld XXL adds to the speciality retail selection, while further additions are already on the horizon. Rockets Man is expected to open later in 2026, bringing another dining and social experience to the destination, while Workshop17 will introduce a flexible working environment in January 2027.

Part of a Bigger Vision for Fourways Mall

According to Juan Palm, General Manager of Fourways Mall, the development was driven by a clear opportunity to introduce a more sophisticated offering to the area: “We recognised a growing demand in Fourways for an upmarket dining and lifestyle experience, and The View was developed specifically to meet that need,” said Juan. “Our vision was to bring together highly sought-after upscale brands in a beautifully designed setting, creating a destination where people can enjoy exceptional dining, wellness and leisure experiences. The quality of the environment and the mix of brands were central to achieving that vision.”

Juan added that the development was also about building stronger connections with the surrounding community: “Our hope is that The View becomes a natural part of life in Fourways, a place that local residents return to regularly, but which also attracts visitors from further afield. It adds another dimension to Fourways Mall and gives people even more reasons to visit.”

Convenience has also been carefully considered, with multiple access points, including direct access from Cedar Road, making The View easy to reach. Its connection to Fourways Mall allows visitors to move between the new destination and the centre’s wider shopping and entertainment offering.

Pretoria, 15 October 2026 — One of Pretoria East’s best-known shopping destinations is preparing for its boldest transformation in decades. Construction has begun this month on the ambitious redevelopment that will see the Faerie Glen Shopping Centre evolve into The New Quarter, a bigger, brighter, reimagined new neighbourhood lifestyle destination, designed around the way the community lives, shops and connects.

With the centre positioned alongside two streams, the redevelopment has also been carefully designed to settle naturally into its surroundings, reflecting the community’s strong connection to the environment and creating a considered relationship between the built and natural landscape. The new design incorporates a modern architectural perspective and will be built to last.

Expected to open in November 2027, the redevelopment into The New Quarter represents a significant investment by Moolman Group, in partnership with Retail Evolution Fund, breathing new life into this established Pretoria East landmark and giving it fresh appeal for a new generation.

An architectural rendering of The New Quarter’s proposed interior, featuring modern retail spaces, pedestrian walkways and inviting seating areas.

A New Vision for a Familiar Destination

Located on the corner of Atterbury Road and Selikats Causeway, the centre’s Pick ‘n Pay Hypermarket has been an integral part of daily life in Pretoria East for decades, earning the trust of generations of shoppers through its value and convenience. The redevelopment builds on that legacy, creating a destination that will give even more reasons to visit.

Expanding by approximately 8,000m², the refreshed centre will feature a fully upgraded Pick n Pay Hypermarket alongside a brand-new 3,000m² Woolworths, Woolworths Café and Woolworths Edit. The expanded retail mix will introduce new fashion, health and beauty stores, essential services and everyday conveniences, while a lively restaurant node will create an inviting outdoor space where family and friends can gather over great food and entertainment.

Designed Around the Community

Construction will be phased to minimise disruption. Regular updates on construction milestones, new retailer announcements and behind-the-scenes progress will be shared via the centre’s social media platforms and community communication channels, ensuring shoppers remain informed throughout the journey.

“This redevelopment is about investing in the future of Pretoria East while recognising the important role that this beloved centre has played in the area for many years,” said a spokesperson. “The redevelopment has been intentionally planned to create a destination where convenience meets lifestyle, giving local families a place they will come to cherish.”

The centre’s evolution marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter, ultimately creating a destination which the Pretoria East community can make their own.

The Game Rangers’ Association of Africa has announced the winners of the 2026 African Conservation Awards, recognising rangers, ranger teams and supporters whose work is making a significant contribution to conservation across the continent.

The Awards provide an opportunity to bring the work of Africa’s rangers into the spotlight and to recognise the individuals, teams and organisations whose commitment protects wildlife, natural landscapes and marine ecosystems, often under exceptionally challenging circumstances.

The 2026 recipients represent conservation work across the Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe. Their work ranges from frontline law enforcement and rhino protection to marine conservation, community partnerships, ranger support and the development of stronger and more resilient ranger teams.

Best Field Ranger

Winner: Dimanche Élysée, Patrol Team Leader, Manovo-Gounda St Floris National Park, Central African Republic (CAR)

Dimanche Élysée is a Patrol Team Leader working in Manovo-Gounda St Floris National Park in the north-eastern Central African Republic, part of a challenging conservation landscape along the borders with Chad and Sudan. Born in the village of Idongo within the protected landscape, Élysée began working with the park’s biomonitoring team in 2021, trained as a field ranger in 2023, and was promoted to Patrol Leader in 2024 after completing his Field Leadership Course. Today, he leads an eight-person patrol team and combines frontline law enforcement with biodiversity monitoring, navigation, digital data collection and operational planning.

Over the past year, his team has been responsible for more than 20 wildlife-crime-related arrests. In February 2026, Élysée led a 13-ranger operation targeting an established commercial bushmeat trafficking network. The operation resulted in 11 arrests and the seizure of 1,924 kg of illegal bushmeat, one of the largest bushmeat seizures recorded in the park. His nomination also highlights his remarkable composure under pressure: after his team came under fire from an armed poacher during another operation, Élysée helped bring the threat under control before personally administering first aid to the wounded man and coordinating his evacuation. His actions demonstrated a combination of courage, restraint, professionalism and respect for human life.

1st Runner-Up: Stephen Dell, Commander, Pilanesberg Rhino Protection Unit, North-West Parks and Tourism Board, South Africa

2nd Runner-Up: Feleg Asefa, Head Ranger, Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority – Awash National Park, Ethiopia

Fikiri Kiponda

Best Marine Ranger

Winner: Fikiri Kiponda, Local Ocean Conservation, Watamu, Kenya

Fikiri Kiponda leads Local Ocean Conservation’s bycatch response programme in Watamu Marine National Park and Reserve, working directly with local fishers to rescue sea turtles accidentally caught in fishing gear. His work has helped transform a conservation challenge into a partnership: by building trust with fishing communities, Fikiri has encouraged fishers to report turtle captures so that animals can be rescued, while the information collected contributes to long-term data on bycatch and sustainable fishing.

Under his coordination, the programme reached its landmark 25,000th sea turtle rescue and expanded to a network of 2,240 fishers, with response teams reaching callouts in an average of 42 minutes. Fikiri also leads five young nest monitors, training them in turtle handling, nest relocation and data recording. His journey into conservation is itself remarkable: he left a career in accounting to enter marine conservation and built a new career around fieldwork, community relationships and sea turtle protection. His leadership demonstrates how lasting conservation results can be achieved by working with communities rather than apart from them.

1st Runner-Up: Victoir Myong Cham Kandolo, Marine Ranger, Mangroves Marine Park, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)

2nd Runner-Up: Bakari Mohamed Sheumbe, Marine Ranger, Kenya Wildlife Service, Malindi Marine National Park, Kenya

Upemba LE_LAB Ranger Team

Best Ranger Team

Winner: Upemba LE/LAB Ranger Team, Upemba National Park, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)

The Upemba LE/LAB Ranger Team is a 13-ranger anti-poaching team supported by a Law Enforcement Mentor at Upemba National Park. Their nomination tells a remarkable story not only of conservation leadership, but of courage and resilience in circumstances few ranger teams should ever have to face.

On 3 March 2026, more than 80 armed Mai Mai fighters launched an attack on the park headquarters at Lusinga. Vastly outnumbered, members of the team worked to defend the station, rescue trapped staff and coordinate evacuations under fire. After the attackers withdrew, they searched for survivors and helped evacuate staff before facing a second attack later that afternoon. Seven colleagues lost their lives. In the days that followed, members of the team remained at Lusinga, regrouping scattered ranger units, securing critical park assets and helping re-establish operational control.

Their achievements extend beyond this extraordinary event. Over the past year, the team has helped restructure Upemba’s Law Enforcement Department through improved patrol planning and operational command, new law-enforcement procedures, stronger discipline and accountability, and the park’s first Section Commanders’ training programme. Through mentoring and leadership, they continue to build a more professional and resilient generation of rangers at Upemba.

1st Runner Up: Oceans Without Borders Benguerra Community & Conservation Rangers, Mozambique

2nd Runner Up: Victoria Falls Anti-Poaching Unit, Zimbabwe

Pilanesberg Wildlife Trust

Best Ranger Supporter

Winner: Pilanesberg Wildlife Trust, South Africa

Pilanesberg Wildlife Trust (PWT) is a non-profit organisation established by the North-West Parks and Tourism Board to mobilise conservation support in and around Pilanesberg. The Trust acts as a bridge between the needs of rangers in the field and the donors, partners, expertise and resources able to meet them. Its support for the Pilanesberg Rhino Protection Unit includes ranger training and equipment, ground and aerial surveillance, rhino monitoring, veterinary interventions and community engagement across the rugged 50,000-hectare conservation area.

Between October 2025 and May 2026, PWT organised and documented at least ten rhino-management interventions, each requiring funding, veterinary expertise, aircraft and close coordination with park staff. It also supports the Bat Hawk aerial surveillance project and rhino identification and monitoring through ear notching, tags and transponders. Beyond operational support, PWT supported the BE BOLD Children’s Camp, which brought 88 learners from four neighbouring schools into the park after months of mentoring by Rhino Protection Unit members.

Through its partnerships, PWT connects rangers with veterinarians, pilots, technology providers, conservation organisations, schools, tourism businesses, corporates, volunteers and donors. Its strength lies in converting that support into practical capability on the ground and ensuring that Pilanesberg’s rangers do not stand alone.

1st Runner Up: Bush Babies Environmental Educators Team, Transfrontier Africa, South Africa

2nd Runner Up: Mara Elephant Project, Kenya

Recognising Africa’s Conservation Community

The winners and runners-up of the 2026 African Conservation Awards demonstrate the breadth of the modern ranger profession and the network of people required to support it. Their work encompasses wildlife protection, law enforcement, marine conservation, scientific monitoring, community engagement, education, ranger safety, leadership development and organisational support.

While four winners have been selected, the GRAA recognises the exceptional contribution of all twelve individuals, teams and organisations placed in this year’s Awards. Each represents a different part of the conservation effort, and each demonstrates the dedication required to protect Africa’s natural heritage.

The African Conservation Awards are hosted annually by the Game Rangers’ Association of Africa (GRAA). The Awards recognise individuals and teams making significant contributions to conservation and to the ranger profession across Africa.

Johannesburg, 7 October 2026: Cleaner parks, repaired potholes, better-maintained public spaces and new employment opportunities are some of the tangible changes being driven in Bedfordview with the support of local businesses. Bedford Shopping Centre is one of Better Bedfordview’s longstanding supporters, contributing R25 000 every month to help the nonprofit organisation continue its work in the suburb Bedford calls home.

Over the past four years, Better Bedfordview has repaired over 1,000 potholes, maintained roads, pavements, parks and greenery, restored neglected public spaces and created employment for 25 people. Bedford also regularly provides additional support for the organisation and the work it undertakes in the suburb.

“Bedfordview is our home too. Our shoppers, staff, businesses and neighbours use these roads and public spaces every day, so investing in the area around us is a natural extension of the role we want Bedford to play in the community,” says Linda Linnow, General Manager of Bedford. “Better Bedfordview has shown what consistent, practical action can achieve and we are proud to support that work every month.”

Investing in the Place Bedford Calls Home

That connection with the neighbourhood is also reflected in a new large-scale billboard erected by Bedford to celebrate Bedfordview following its recent centenary. Following Bedfordview’s recent centenary, the billboard is a celebration of the neighbourhood itself, reflecting Bedford’s love for the suburb and encouraging the wider community to take pride in the place they call home.

Through its partnership with Better Bedfordview, Bedford will continue supporting practical improvements that make a visible difference to the people who live, work, shop and spend time in the area.

For more information about Bedford, its stores and projects, visit Bedford’s website bedfordcentre.com or follow @bedfordcentre on social media for updates.

Dr. Rasha Kelej and African and Asian First Ladies Mark World Heart Day With 950-Plus Specialized Scholarships

Merck Foundation marks World Heart Day by building cardiovascular preventive, cardiology, diabetes care and endocrinology capacity through more than 950 specialized scholarships across 52 countries.

NAIROBI, Kenya — Merck Foundation, the German not-for-profit organisation, is marking World Heart Day 2026 together with First Ladies of Africa and Asia and partners including ministries of health, medical societies and academia through its Nationwide Diabetes & Hypertension Blue Points Program.

Senator Dr. Rasha Kelej (Ret.), CEO of Merck Foundation, said the organisation is marking World Heart Day by building cardiovascular and diabetes care capacity across Africa, Asia and Latin America.

“At Merck Foundation we mark ‘World Heart Day’ by building cardiovascular and diabetes care capacity in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

“I am proud to share that together with our Ambassadors, the First Ladies of Africa and Asia, and partners including Ministries of Health, Medical Societies and Academia, Merck Foundation has provided 956 scholarships for healthcare providers from 52 countries, of One-Year Online PG Diplomas and Two-Year Online Master’s Degrees in Diabetes, Cardiovascular Preventive Care, Endocrinology, Cardiology, and Obesity & Weight Management, as well as One-Year Clinical Cardiovascular Care and Clinical Diabetes Onsite Fellowship Programs.”

Bringing Specialist Care Closer to Communities

Kelej said Merck Foundation remains committed to bringing specialist healthcare capacity closer to the communities that need it, particularly outside major capital cities.

“We are committed to bringing specialized healthcare capacity closer to the communities that need it. By providing scholarships for healthcare providers from different parts of countries, beyond the major capital cities, we are helping create local experts who can provide specialized cardiovascular and diabetes care and also contribute to prevention, early detection, and greater health awareness in their communities.”

“This is how we build sustainable healthcare capacity: by empowering healthcare providers to become local experts and a lasting resource for their communities.”

In total, Merck Foundation has provided more than 2,750 scholarships for healthcare providers from 52 countries across 44 critical and underserved medical specialties.

Dr. Husein Jivanji, a Merck Foundation alumnus from Kenya, said the opportunity to pursue a postgraduate diploma in cardiovascular preventive medicine strengthened his clinical knowledge and practical skills.

“I am very thankful to Merck Foundation for providing me with the opportunity to pursue a PG Diploma in Cardiovascular Preventive Medicine. The training program has significantly strengthened my clinical knowledge and practical skills. With my increased knowledge and skills, I have started a specialized cardiology clinic in the public sector. I have been able to enhance patient management practices and contribute more effectively to improving healthcare services in my community.”

Cardiovascular Disease and Hypertension in Africa

According to the World Health Organization, cardiovascular diseases have emerged as the leading cause of noncommunicable disease deaths in the African region, with more than 1 million cardiovascular deaths estimated in 2019.

Hypertension remains a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, with fewer than one-third of people living with hypertension receiving treatment and only about 12% having their condition under control.

To raise awareness, Merck Foundation has also launched several community awareness programmes in partnership with First Ladies of Africa and Asia, focusing on the prevention and early detection of hypertension and diabetes, which are closely linked, while promoting healthier lifestyles within communities.

Teaching Healthy Habits From an Early Age

Merck Foundation, together with First Ladies, has launched the children’s storybooks Mark’s Pressure and Sugar Free Jude, aimed at encouraging children and families to adopt healthier lifestyles and helping to prevent hypertension, diabetes and related complications.

The foundation has also adapted the storybooks into animated films.

“Healthy habits are easiest to build from an early age. Therefore, through our storybooks and animation films, we are educating children and young people about the importance of making healthy choices, including reducing salt and sugar intake, exercising regularly, eating balanced meals and avoiding smoking. By helping children develop healthy habits today, we can empower them to lead healthier lives tomorrow,” Kelej said.

Merck Foundation’s pan-African TV programme Our Africa is conceptualised, produced, directed and co-hosted by Kelej.

Through conversations with African fashion designers, singers and experts from different fields, the programme raises awareness of social and health issues, with episodes dedicated to diabetes and promoting healthier lifestyles.

Johannesburg, 1 October 2026 — Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels has stepped in to support the family of three-year-old Peyton Wahl, raising R250,000 towards his medical treatment and long road to recovery following a devastating accident that left him with severe burns to 21% of his body.

The accident happened at home when Peyton fell into a bath of piping hot water. While the exact circumstances remain unclear, the little boy sustained extensive second- and third-degree burns and was rushed to the nearest private hospital for emergency treatment.

Without medical aid and facing costs that were simply beyond the family’s financial means, Peyton was later transferred to a state hospital in Pretoria, where he has since stabilised. His family continues to provide the pain medication he needs with the help of donations.

Peyton’s mother, Sheramé, is a much-loved teacher at the pre-school Peyton attends, and news of his accident quickly brought the school community together. Friends, parents and members of the wider community have rallied around the family, with several people also reaching out to Good Morning Angels on their behalf.

Around R400,000 has already been raised towards Peyton’s medical care, but with a long recovery ahead and the full cost of his treatment still unknown, the family urgently needs continued support.

The Wahl family’s story touched Len Enslin, CEO of Gearvest, and Lorna Enslin, CEO of Harvest Floor, the implementing partner of the recent Legends for Charity Golf Day. The pair, together with the Legends for Charity Golf Day, its players and supporters, have pledged R125,000 towards Peyton’s medical treatment.

The Good Morning Angels Fund has contributed a further R100,000, while after hearing Peyton’s story on air, Marno Boshoff from King Price called into the show with an additional R25,000.

Together, the three contributions bring the total raised through this week’s Good Morning Angels appeal to R250,000.

For Peyton’s parents, the journey continues to be an emotional and exhausting one. They travel between their home in Kempton Park and Pretoria every day to be at their little boy’s side as he begins the long process of healing.

“Peyton’s story touched so many people, because accidents like this can happen in an instant, and he is just three years old. So many people reached out to us, particularly from the school community where his mom works. Having his dad in studio, hearing him tell Peyton’s story and seeing the emotion behind it was incredibly moving,” Martin Bester, host of Jacaranda FM’s Breakfast With Martin Bester. “To see the Angels come together again, as they do every Wednesday, to make a difference in this young family’s life means so much. We’re wishing Peyton all the strength for the road ahead. His family now knows that they have a whole network of Angels behind them, people they know and people they may never meet, who genuinely care.”

The funds raised will assist the Wahl family with ongoing medical bills, specialized burn care, and transportation expenses as Peyton continues his treatment.

Johannesburg, 29 September 2026 | What happens when South Africa’s No. 1 Feel-Good Station brings its community together for a day of golf, fun and giving back? R5.5 million raised for Good Morning Angels.

Jacaranda FM’s annual Good Morning Angels Golf Day, held at Irene Country Club, has raised an incredible R5.5 million for the Good Morning Angels Fund, creating an even greater opportunity for the station to support listeners and South Africans facing medical emergencies, extreme hardship and life-changing circumstances.

Bringing together approximately 80 companies, the annual event transformed the golf course, bowls field, padel courts and sponsor village into a day of sport, entertainment, creativity and fundraising, before culminating in an evening celebration and charity auction.

Every element of the day, from the hole activations to the teams competing on the golf course, bowls field and padel court, was designed to raise funds for the Good Morning Angels Fund, enabling the station to continue stepping in for South Africans facing extreme hardship and medical emergencies.

“We are incredibly grateful to every company, sponsor, participant, partner and individual who contributed to this year’s Good Morning Angels Golf Day,” says Vuyani Dombo, Managing Director of Jacaranda FM. “R5.5 million is an extraordinary achievement, but what makes it particularly meaningful is what that money represents. It represents hope, dignity and tangible support for people who are going through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. The generosity and creativity shown throughout the day was a powerful reminder of what can happen when our community comes together behind a common purpose.”

The No. 1 Feel-Good Golf Day

The Good Morning Angels Golf Day has become one of the biggest dates on Jacaranda FM’s annual calendar, bringing together the station’s business partners, clients, listeners and supporters for a day where fundraising and fun go hand in hand.

This year, approximately 80 companies contributed to the experience across the golf course, bowls field, padel courts, sponsor village, prize-giving ceremony and auction. The result was a day packed with creativity and entertainment, from spectacular hole activations and sporting challenges to live performances and a charity auction.

The event’s best hole activation went to Sabat and Midas, whose high-energy activation featured superbikes performing tricks and live entertainment. The activation also raised approximately R20,000 for Good Morning Angels through a raffle.

In the Sponsor Village, Skill Set Solutions took the prize for the best participation, while the evening charity auction raised a further R650,000 for the Good Morning Angels Fund.

The auction was hosted by comedian Nicholas Goliath, with guests also treated to live performances from Stephanie Baartman and Demi-Lee Moore.

A night-golf nearest-to-the-pin competition added another R80,000 to the fundraising total. But while the activations, competitions and entertainment made the day memorable, the reason behind it all remained the same: to give Good Morning Angels the means to help more people.

The Impact Continues Long After the Golf Day

Good Morning Angels has spent years responding to the stories of ordinary South Africans going through extraordinary circumstances. From families facing devastating medical diagnoses and children needing urgent treatment to people who suddenly find themselves unable to afford essential care, the fund exists to step in when help is needed most.

The R5.5 million raised this year means Good Morning Angels can continue answering those calls. It means more opportunities to provide practical financial assistance when a listener has nowhere else to turn. It means being able to contribute towards medical treatment, essential equipment, urgent interventions and other forms of support that can make an immediate and meaningful difference to a family’s life.

For Jacaranda FM’s Martin Bester, host of the popular ‘Breakfast With Martin Bester’, the R5.5 million raised is a powerful reminder of the generosity of the Jacaranda FM community.

“The R5.5 million raised through this year’s Good Morning Angels Golf Day is such a strong reminder of how lucky we are to have a network of companies, people and listeners who continue to be so generous, even during incredibly challenging times,” says Bester. “When you listen to Good Morning Angels on a Wednesday morning, you are reminded of the incredible difference that can be made when people decide to step in and help someone who really needs it. So, to everyone who took part in the golf day, thank you, thank you very much. We are incredibly humbled and grateful for the support.”

Bester adds, “The creativity of the activations this year was also next level. I stood at some of those holes and honestly got goosebumps. Ultimately, though, all the fun and entertainment comes back to one thing: raising money to help people. Knowing that the R5.5 million raised will help us make a difference through Good Morning Angels makes this day so incredibly special. We cannot thank everyone who showed up, supported us, donated, and gave their time enough.”

Every Wednesday morning, listeners hear the stories of people who need a helping hand. The fund allows Jacaranda FM, together with its network of Angels, to turn those stories into action. Every rand raised from this year’s Good Morning Angels Golf Day contributes to the Good Morning Angels Fund, which enables Jacaranda FM to assist individuals and families whose lives have been impacted by circumstances ranging from medical emergencies and serious illness to other life-changing challenges.

The R5.5 million raised this year will help ensure that the Good Morning Angels team can continue answering the call when people need a little help, and a reminder that they are not alone.

Cape Town, 23 September 2026: Cape Town wine lovers will have the opportunity to taste some of South Africa’s finest wines in one place when the 2026 Fine Wine Awards Trophy Winners Tasting, in partnership with American Express, comes to Cavendish Square on Saturday, 26 September 2026, from 11am to 2pm.

Hosted by Wine Tonight? in Cavendish Square’s Centre Court, the tasting will bring together the Trophy-winning wines from the 2026 Fine Wine Awards, giving shoppers a rare opportunity to taste their way through some of the standout wines selected from this year’s competition.

Nearly 1,000 Wines Judged Blind

The Fine Wine Awards have rapidly established themselves as one of South Africa’s significant wine competitions. Almost 1,000 wines were entered into the 2026 Awards, representing producers and wine styles from across the country.

Importantly, the wines are judged blind, meaning the tasting panel evaluates each wine without seeing the bottle, label, producer, or price. The focus is entirely on the quality of the wine in the glass.

From those entries, the very best-performing wines across the different categories are recognised as Trophy winners – and it is these wines that will take centre stage at Cavendish Square.

Taste the Trophy Winners

The public tasting provides Cape Town wine lovers with an opportunity to discover and compare a collection of award-winning South African wines without having to travel from estate to estate.

Visitors will be able to taste the Trophy-winning wines, discover new producers and varietals, and purchase their favourites directly from the Wine Tonight? store at Cavendish Square.

American Express Cardmembers will receive complimentary access to the tasting, as well as 15% off Fine Wine Awards Trophy-winning wines purchased on the day using their American Express Card.

The tasting runs from 11am to 2pm on Saturday, 26 September, with no pre-booking required.

Celebrating the Best of South African Wine

The Fine Wine Awards were created to recognise outstanding South African wines on merit, regardless of reputation, packaging or price.

“The thing that makes this tasting particularly exciting is that these wines have earned their place purely on what was in the glass,” said Clifford Collard of Wine Tonight.

“Nearly 1,000 wines were entered this year and tasted blind. The Trophy winners represent some of the wines that really stood out to the judges. Bringing them together at Cavendish gives wine lovers a fantastic opportunity to taste some of South Africa’s best wines side by side and decide on their own favourites.”

The Trophy Winners Tasting forms part of the ongoing partnership between the Fine Wine Awards, Wine-of-the-Month Club, Wine Tonight? and American Express to celebrate South African wine and make exceptional local wines more accessible to consumers.

“Spring is such a great time to get outdoors and get moving, and we wanted to create something that people could enjoy together in a completely different part of Bedford,” says Linda Linnow, General Manager of Bedford. “You don’t have to be incredibly fit or belong to a gym.
