South African singer-songwriter Celeste Swift releases ‘What If You Had Stayed?‘ today, 2 October 2026, alongside its official music video. Drawing from her personal experience of pregnancy loss, the deeply intimate single reflects on a future once imagined but never realised, and the lingering question at its heart: who might that little person have grown up to become?

For Celeste, the song grew from more than the experience of loss itself. It came from having imagined a future, begun to picture a child, and entered into the emotional experience of becoming a mother, only to have that future disappear. ‘What If You Had Stayed?’ reflects on the person she never had the opportunity to know and the ordinary moments that would never happen, from hearing a voice and celebrating birthdays to watching a child grow into themselves.

At the centre of the song is the understanding that a loss can be profound even when the person being mourned was never known outside the imagination. Celeste describes the song as coming from “the place where the questions still live”, rather than from having found all the answers. That honesty gives the song its emotional character and speaks to an experience that can be difficult to articulate: someone can be deeply loved, deeply missed, and remain a significant part of a person’s story without ever having had the chance to enter the world.

The song also considers the silence that can surround pregnancy loss. While one person’s world may have changed completely, life around them can continue as though nothing has happened. The experience can be physically and emotionally overwhelming while remaining invisible to others, and there may be uncertainty about what to say or how to explain what has happened. Celeste wanted to make space for those feelings without placing a timetable on grief or suggesting that there is a prescribed way to mourn.

Her hope is that the song may reach another woman who has experienced a similar loss and allow her to recognise something of her own story in it. As Celeste puts it, “If she hears this song and thinks, ‘Someone understands’, then this song has done what I needed it to do.”

‘What If You Had Stayed?’ continues Celeste’s creative work with South African musician and producer Mark Beling of Mean Mr Mustard. Recorded at Little Rock Recording Studio, Beling produced and mixed the track, with mastering by Darryl De Lange. For Celeste, the production needed to support the story without overwhelming it. She describes the recording as being less about making every moment sound flawless and more about capturing something honest. “The vulnerability in the vocal needed to remain because this is not a story I wanted to sing from a distance; it is one I have lived.”

The release follows Celeste’s debut single, ‘Now That You’re Gone‘, released in August 2025 and written in memory of her late father, and ‘Spookasem Woorde’, her first Afrikaans-language single, released in October 2025. Together, the songs reflect an artist whose songwriting is increasingly rooted in lived experience, while moving between English and Afrikaans and exploring themes of loss, love, healing and emotional resilience.

Celeste’s musical journey began in 2009 with live performances at weddings, bars and intimate venues. After stepping away from music, she returned in 2023 as lead vocalist of alternative pop-rock band Headline, before founding Swift & Co. and beginning her solo career in 2024. Her approach to songwriting is grounded in melody, honest storytelling, and the belief that music can articulate experiences that are sometimes difficult to express in ordinary conversation.

Through ‘What If You Had Stayed?’, Celeste Swift transforms an intensely personal chapter of her life into something others may recognise in their own experiences. The song gives space to a love formed around the promise of a life that never had the opportunity to unfold, and to the absence, memories imagined, and unanswered questions that can endure long after loss.

What began as a viral moment earlier this year quickly got fans talking. Nadia Nakai and Toss shared a kiss in Toss’s Valentine’s Day music video, fuelling dating rumours and plenty of speculation about what was really going on between them. That unexpected chemistry has now carried over into music, laying the groundwork for their collaboration.

Built around the idea of two people falling for each other despite coming from completely different backgrounds, Do’s & Dont’s brings together Toss’s perspective from the hood and Nadia Nakai’s suburban upbringing. Their contrasting worlds influence how they communicate, express love, handle conflict, and understand loyalty.

Across the project, Nadia and Toss take listeners through the different stages of a relationship — from attraction and excitement to arguments, jealousy, trust issues and the struggle to meet each other halfway. Each song offers both sides of the story, showing how the same situation can be experienced and understood very differently.

While Nadia Nakai is known for her commanding Hip Hop background and Toss has established himself within the Amapiano space, Do’s & Dont’s does not sound like what fans may expect from either artist. Instead of simply combining Hip Hop and Amapiano, the pair step outside their familiar musical worlds to create a fresh, unexpected sound that reveals new sides of them both.

The project challenges the expectations of Nadia and Toss’s existing fanbases, proving that neither artist is confined to one genre. Their contrasting styles, voices and energies come together in a way that feels surprising yet natural, giving Do’s & Dont’s its own distinct musical identity.

At its heart, Do’s & Dont’s is about more than romance. It explores class, culture, communication, and the realities of building a connection when two people were raised with different ideas of what a relationship should look like.

Honest, playful, emotional and relatable, Do’s & Dont’s gives listeners a front-row seat to the beautiful — and sometimes chaotic — experience of two different worlds colliding.

South African singer-songwriter Katia De Vallier returns with her inspiring new single, ‘Unstoppables’, a vibrant pop-infused dance anthem that celebrates resilience, determination, and the courage to keep moving forward no matter what life throws your way.

Bursting with infectious energy, soaring melodies and an irresistible feel-good vibe, ‘Unstoppables’ is more than just an uplifting pop track. It is an empowering anthem for dreamers, go-getters and anyone who refuses to let setbacks define their future.

The single follows Katia’s previous release, Nothing Should Stop You, which encouraged listeners to take that first courageous step towards pursuing their dreams. ‘Unstoppables’ builds on that journey, celebrating the powerful mindset that comes once you’ve committed to believing in yourself and refusing to give up.

Driven by contemporary pop production and dance-floor-ready beats, ‘Unstoppables’ transforms determination into celebration, delivering a message that lingers long after the music ends.

The single also marks another exciting collaboration between Katia and acclaimed South African producer, songwriter and recording artist Daniel Baron, who produced the track and features on vocals. Since beginning their creative partnership in late 2024, the duo has crafted music that seamlessly blends emotional authenticity with polished, radio-friendly pop.

For Katia, ‘Unstoppables’ is deeply personal.

“’Unstoppables’ came to me in the period after I wrote Nothing Should Stop You. That song was the realisation that I could go after the life I wanted and finally pursue my dreams in music. ‘Unstoppables’ became the anthem to that journey, and it continues to be”. says De Vallier

“The opportunity to have Daniel Baron feature on the track with me feels surreal. He’s an accomplished musician, producer and an all-round wonderful person and he brought this song to life with his incredible production and the magic of his vocals. I hope the song touches people the way it touches me and becomes their anthem too. Whenever life gets tough or things seem to be pulling you off course, press play on ‘Unstoppables’ and remember the mission you’re on. No matter what tries to derail you, you are one of the ‘Unstoppables’.”

Baron says the collaboration was an easy decision, inspired by Katia’s authenticity and the uplifting message at the heart of the song.

“Working with Katia has been incredibly rewarding because she creates music with genuine purpose. From the moment I heard ‘Unstoppables’, I connected with its message of resilience, hope and believing in yourself. I wanted to be part of creating something that people could not only dance to, but also turn to when they need encouragement. Music has the power to lift people up, and I believe ‘Unstoppables’ does exactly that.”

Katia first began releasing original music after making the courageous decision to pursue her lifelong passion alongside launching her own consultancy business. What started as a leap of faith has grown into a catalogue of empowering songs that encourage listeners to embrace change, believe in themselves and live lives filled with purpose.

With its infectious hooks, high-energy production and universally relatable message, ‘Unstoppables’ is destined to become the soundtrack for workouts, road trips, celebrations and those moments when life demands a little extra courage.

Some songs are written to entertain. Others ask listeners to confront emotions they may have buried for years. With their latest single, ‘Popcorn and Candyfloss’, South African alternative rock outfit The Color Blew deliver a deeply introspective release that explores memory, innocence, longing, and the quiet realisation that some moments are gone long before we understand their significance.

Driven by immersive guitars, atmospheric textures, and emotionally charged songwriting, the track marks another confident step in the band’s artistic evolution while remaining true to the authenticity that has defined their music since their formation in 2014.

At the heart of ‘Popcorn and Candyfloss’ lies the image of a moth endlessly drawn towards a light it cannot resist. Rather than serving as a symbol of hope, the metaphor becomes a reflection on the darker side of desire and nostalgia. It examines the pursuit of something we believe will complete us, only to discover that what we long for has already slipped beyond our reach.

Vocalist, guitarist and producer Liaan Horton describes the song as “a desperate, ironic longing for an innocence that’s already been destroyed by ‘the darkest of our night’.” That sentiment runs throughout the composition, transforming what could have been a nostalgic reflection into something far more complex. It is an exploration of obsession, distraction and the human tendency to chase meaning in places where it no longer exists.

An equally rich musical landscape matches the emotional weight of the single. Alongside Liaan’s songwriting and production, the recording features expressive lead guitar and synthesiser work from Xavien-Lee Horton, whose contributions add fresh depth and texture to the band’s expanding sound. His melodic approach complements the song’s reflective atmosphere while reinforcing The Colour Blew’s ability to blend thoughtful lyricism with expansive alternative-rock arrangements.

Over the past decade, The Color Blew have steadily carved out a distinctive identity within South Africa’s independent music scene. From the grunge and punk influences that shaped their debut album, ‘The Canvas’, to the broader sonic direction explored on ‘Light Switch’, the band has consistently favoured artistic growth over commercial trends. Singles such as ‘Under Pressure’, ‘Love in Space’, ‘Discount Hearts’, ‘Leave’, and ‘Lily’ have each demonstrated a willingness to evolve without losing sight of the emotional honesty that defines their work.

That progression continues with ‘Popcorn and Candyfloss’, which arrives as an important preview of the band’s forthcoming third studio album. The single balances haunting melodies with layered production, creating a listening experience that rewards repeated plays as new details and interpretations continue to emerge.

For fans of alternative rock, the song offers far more than another addition to a playlist. It presents a thoughtful meditation on memory, the illusions we pursue, and the parts of ourselves we spend a lifetime trying to recover. Rather than offering easy answers, The Color Blew invite listeners to reflect on their own experiences and the moments that continue to shape them long after they have passed.

With its cinematic production, evocative storytelling and emotional sincerity, ‘Popcorn and Candyfloss’ stands among The Color Blew’s most accomplished releases to date. It is a confident statement from a band that continues to refine its sound while remaining committed to substance, authenticity and meaningful songwriting.

Johannesburg, 19 June 2026 | Three of South Africa’s most celebrated musical forces unite for a landmark global release. “Golden” brings together 3x Grammy Award-winning flautist Wouter Kellerman, 7x SAMA-nominated artist and super-producer Daniel Baron, and multi-award-nominated international pop star Cara Frew in a breathtaking sonic experience that transcends genre and borders. It’s a soulful, soaring thread of music, heart, and culture woven into one moment.

The collaboration is already making waves globally. Following the release of the official music video, “Golden” has amassed an incredible 265,000 views in just six days, while the track has also earned a coveted place on Apple Music’s esteemed Global Pop playlist, introducing the song to listeners around the world and cementing its status as one of South Africa’s most exciting new releases.

Fresh off receiving the honour of South Africa’s highest presidential national order, The Order of Ikhamanga in Gold, Wouter Kellerman leads this extraordinary collaboration with the same world-class artistry that has earned him global acclaim, multiple Grammy Awards, and performances on the world’s most prestigious stages. His signature flute work on “Golden” is both masterful and deeply emotive, anchoring the track in a rich, spiritual musicality that elevates it beyond the ordinary.

At the production helm and also featuring vocally, Daniel Baron brings his unmistakable touch as one of South Africa’s most prolific hitmakers. With over 30 number ones and a reputation for crafting chart-dominating, radio-defining music, Baron seamlessly blends contemporary pop with Afro-inspired textures and cinematic sound design. His ability to fuse commercial appeal with artistic depth is on full display, positioning “Golden” as both a global contender and a timeless record.

Completing the trio is Cara Frew, an internationally recognised female pop force whose career spans continents. A SAMA-nominated artist who has graced the Coachella stage and collaborated with global icons such as Black Coffee, Frew delivers a standout vocal performance that is both powerful and intimate. Her voice carries the emotional core of the song, bringing vulnerability, strength, and undeniable star quality.

“Golden” is more than a song; it is a luminous, cinematic pop masterpiece infused with Afro rhythms, world-music minimalism, and heart-stirring emotion. The track journeys from a delicate, intimate opening into an expansive, anthemic chorus, capturing themes of timeless love, unity, and human connection.

With its universal message and cross-genre appeal, “Golden” stands poised to resonate across global audiences, playlists, and stages. This is not just a collaboration; it is a defining cultural statement and a shining example of South African excellence on the world stage.

Johannesburg, 9 July 2026 | Following the heartfelt response to their collaboration ‘Angel’, Martin Bester and Ross Learmonth have premiered the song’s official music video, a song inspired by Jacaranda FM’s long-running Good Morning Angels initiative and the extraordinary stories of hope, generosity and compassion that have touched South Africans for more than two decades.

The video, shot at the Jacaranda FM studios in Midrand, gives fans an intimate behind-the-scenes look at the home of Breakfast with Martin Bester and features Martin and Ross alongside several of their colleagues at the station.

The video is also brought to life through powerful footage captured during Jacaranda FM’s Feel Good Tour, which celebrated the station’s 40th birthday. As part of the nationwide tour, Breakfast with Martin Bester broadcast live from schools across South Africa, where thousands of learners became the very first people to hear Angel before its official release. Their heartfelt reactions, performances and interpretations of the song now form an emotional thread throughout the music video.

The upbeat pop track, co-written with Ross Learmonth and Ewald Jansen van Rensburg, who also produced the song, beautifully conveys the message of accepting help when you’re at your lowest and recognising that everyone needs an ‘angel’ sometimes.

“This is something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time,” says Martin. “Good Morning Angels has become such a massive part of my life and my journey at Jacaranda FM. Over the years, we’ve witnessed incredible moments of humanity, kindness and hope, and I always felt those emotions deserved a song.”

Speaking about the music video, Martin says seeing the song come to life through the learners’ eyes made the project even more meaningful.

“Angel is an incredibly special song to me. Filming the music video at Jacaranda FM made perfect sense because this station has done such incredible work with Good Morning Angels,” Martin continues. “What really makes the video special, however, is the footage from our Feel Good Tour. Seeing how the learners connected with the song and the beautiful interpretations they brought to it was incredibly moving. They added so much heart to the video, and I think people will really feel that when they watch it.”

Beyond the music itself, ‘Angel’ carries a meaningful purpose. Martin will be donating all of his songwriting royalties from the song to Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels fund, helping the initiative continue changing lives and supporting individuals and families in need across South Africa.

Over the last 20 years, Good Morning Angels has become one of South Africa’s most impactful radio-led initiatives, raising millions of rand for causes ranging from medical assistance and education to housing, mobility, and disaster relief.

‘Angel’ is now available on all major streaming platforms, with the official music video live on YouTube.

Khazimula’s latest single, “On a Dream,” arrives as a quietly defiant statement in an uncertain world. Crafted by South African songwriter and storyteller Carol-Ann Meltzer, the track leans into imagination as a form of resistance, reminding us that progress begins with vision.

Performed by Megan Marks and produced by Mark Beling (of Mean Mr Mustard), the single strikes a polished balance between cinematic pop and adult contemporary. It trades fleeting trends for restraint, allowing sincerity and deep atmosphere to carry the weight.

Finding Fuel in the “Middle Ground”

At its core, “On a Dream” explores the gap between where we are and where we want to be. Instead of viewing this tension as a flaw, Meltzer frames it as fuel; the precise space where ambition, identity, and growth are born.

What is Khazimula? “Rooted in the isiZulu word “to shine,” Khazimula blends songwriting, storytelling, and reflective creative work to explore human potential”.

Crafting a Shared Experience

Drawing from Meltzer’s deep background in academic study and creative partnerships, the track offers a highly distilled, accessible sound. Rather than self-indulgent exposition, it speaks directly to the shared human experience. Marks’ controlled vocals and Beling’s cinematic production ensure the message remains front and center.

The Fismits unveil their anticipated EP, Falling Joy, accompanied by the release of the third single When and a dedicated launch performance at Railways Cafe.

For most artists, an EP represents a collection of songs recorded over a year or two. For The Fismits, Falling Joy represents the completion of a journey that began more than thirty years ago.

The songs that make up the EP trace their origins back to the early 1990s, when songwriter, producer and The Fismits founder Mark Biagio was studying in Durban and developing a creative partnership with fellow songwriter Bruce Barrett in a band called The Mind Theatre. During those formative years, Barrett wrote a collection of songs that would leave a lasting impression on Biagio. Some were performed live. Others remained unfinished. Many lingered quietly in memory, rehearsal rooms and private recordings long after the band itself had faded into history.

Rather than allowing those songs to remain frozen in time, Biagio spent the last several years revisiting them through the lens of experience, reshaping and reinterpreting them for a completely different stage of life. The result is Falling Joy, a five-track release that feels both deeply personal and surprisingly contemporary.

Recorded during 2024 and 2025 at Dirty Badger Music, the EP does not attempt to recreate the past. Instead, it asks what happens when songs written by young musicians are revisited by the people they eventually became. It is that question that gives ‘Falling Joy’ its emotional weight. Across the record, youthful urgency meets adult perspective. Ambition meets reflection. Nostalgia is present but never allowed to dominate. Instead, the songs are treated as living works, evolving naturally through time and experience. The release follows a carefully paced rollout that introduced audiences to different sides of the project.

The first single, ‘Scars’, released in March 2026, quickly emerged as one of the defining moments of the campaign. Long regarded by those close to the material as one of Bruce Barrett’s strongest compositions, the song combines a distinctive guitar riff with subtle rhythmic complexity and an emotional intensity that refuses to fade. Although it had existed in various forms for decades, Biagio maintained that the definitive version only emerged once the right key, vocal phrasing and arrangement were discovered. The response to ‘Scars’ reinforced the idea at the heart of ‘Falling Joy’: some songs simply need time.

The second single, ‘Independence’, arrived in May 2026 and revealed a very different side of the EP. Originally rooted in the British indie influences that shaped much of the early 1990s alternative landscape, the song was dramatically reimagined. Electronic textures, looping rhythms and an unmistakable 1980s aesthetic transformed the track into one of the most adventurous recordings in The Fismits catalogue. Playful, unexpected and creatively unconstrained, ‘Independence’ demonstrated that revisiting older material did not mean being bound by it.

Now the final chapter arrives with ‘When’. Originally written by Bruce Barrett in the mid-1990s and first performed by The Mind Theatre, ‘When’ captures a feeling that many South Africans know intimately: the desire to move forward while wrestling with uncertainty about what lies ahead. Its lyrics speak of departure, ambition, perseverance and self-belief. Yet what makes the 2026 version particularly compelling is the perspective from which it is delivered. The voice singing these words is no longer the voice of a young man imagining the future. It is the voice of someone who has lived through much of that future and returned to the song carrying the experiences that followed; in doing so, ‘When’ becomes more than a revival. It becomes a conversation across time.

That same conversation continues throughout the EP. The brief title track, ‘Falling Joy’, acts as a reflective interlude, drawing its name from a lyric in another Bruce Barrett composition and encapsulating the record’s central idea: that joy and loss often arrive together.

The closing track, ‘Too Small A Word’, takes perhaps the most dramatic transformation of all. Once conceived as a grand, classic-rock statement, it has been stripped back and rebuilt into something darker, more vulnerable and emotionally exposed. It closes the EP not with certainty, but with honesty.

Taken together, these five songs form a body of work concerned with memory, friendship, identity and the strange relationship between who we were and who we become. The release also represents another significant chapter in the evolution of The Fismits itself.

Since emerging in 2016 as a three-piece project founded by Mark Biagio alongside long-time friends Nielle and Arthur, The Fismits has continually evolved while remaining rooted in an independent DIY spirit. Over the years, releases such as ‘Anywhere’, ‘Before the Hindsight’ and the 2024 single ‘Halen’ established Biagio as a songwriter unafraid to explore themes of family, responsibility, loss, resilience and personal history.

‘Halen’ foreshadowed much of what would follow. Originally written decades earlier alongside members of the influential South African band Live Jimi Presley, the song was finally completed and released as a tribute following the passing of frontman Marc ‘Presley’ Feltham. Like many of the songs on Falling Joy, it demonstrated Biagio’s growing interest in unfinished creative conversations and the possibility of completing them years later with greater clarity and emotional understanding.

That thread now reaches its fullest expression on Falling Joy. Far from being an exercise in nostalgia, the EP stands as a statement about artistic persistence. It is about allowing songs the time they need to become what they were always meant to be.

To celebrate the release, The Fismits will perform a special EP launch show at Railways Cafe on Friday 26 June alongside The Barcode Bandits and Later Alligator. The event marks not only the public launch of the record but also the culmination of a creative journey spanning more than three decades.

For audiences discovering The Fismits for the first time, Falling Joy serves as an introduction to a songwriter committed to emotional honesty and craft. For those who have followed the project’s journey, it represents something rarer. A destination. Not because the story ends here, but because a chapter that began in rehearsal rooms and student years in Durban has finally found its conclusion.

And after thirty years of waiting, these songs are finally ready to belong to the world.

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape how people create, communicate and connect, South African artist Stephen Gawking is stepping into the conversation with a song that asks an important question: what makes creativity uniquely human?

That question sits at the core of Manna, his latest single featuring acclaimed vocalist Eva Morgan and renowned rock performer Mark Haze. Available on all major streaming platforms from 19 June, the release arrives at a time when technology and artistry are increasingly intersecting.

Known as The Nuclear Lyricist, Stephen Gawking has earned recognition for crafting songs that blend meaningful storytelling with messages of resilience, hope and perseverance. Living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2, he has turned personal adversity into creative purpose, inspiring listeners to look beyond limitations and focus on possibilities.

With Manna, Stephen delivers one of his most reflective and timely works. Built around cinematic pop production and emotionally charged performances, the song explores themes of authenticity, inspiration and the search for meaning in an increasingly digital world. Rather than rejecting technological advancement, the track examines how innovation can coexist with the emotional depth that has always defined great art.

“‘Manna’ is a reflective pop song about searching for light in uncertain times,” says Stephen. “While acknowledging the rise of AI and its influence on art, the song affirms that technology can be embraced without replacing what makes creativity truly powerful, the human soul behind it.”

Drawing inspiration from the biblical concept of manna, the song uses the symbol as a metaphor for inspiration, purpose and those unexpected moments of clarity that arrive when they are needed most. It speaks to the universal search for meaning and direction amid uncertainty.

To realise this vision, Stephen brought together two artists whose careers have been defined by authenticity and emotional connection.

Mark Haze, celebrated for his commanding stage presence and signature blend of rock, soul and blues, joined the project during what began as a practical recording collaboration. As the creative process unfolded, he found himself increasingly drawn to the song’s message and themes.

“The song speaks about searching and finding one’s way back to the centre to fill a void,” says Mark. “It is about finding that manna which nourishes the soul. In a world where everyone is constantly searching for the next thing, we often forget to appreciate the blessings already in front of us.”

Eva Morgan

Eva Morgan, widely regarded as one of South Africa’s most versatile vocalists, brings warmth, elegance and emotional depth to the recording. Following her previous collaboration with Stephen on Bubblegum Milkshake, she once again demonstrates the vocal artistry and sensitivity that have made her a respected performer both locally and internationally.

“I loved working on this song,” says Eva. “I had space to showcase my true vocal passion with an incredible melody and beautiful lyrics.”

Together, the trio creates a track that feels both contemporary and timeless. Produced by Bobby Johnson and co-produced by Stephen Gawking, Manna combines polished modern production with heartfelt storytelling, creating an experience that encourages listeners to pause and reflect.

More than a song about technology, Manna is a meditation on creativity, gratitude, faith, connection and the enduring strength of the human spirit. At a time when society is increasingly fascinated by what machines can achieve, Stephen Gawking, Mark Haze and Eva Morgan offer a compelling reminder that the most meaningful art still begins with human experience.

You simply cannot find flaws in them, in their personality, or in what they bring to the table as a partner. It is the honeymoon stage of a brand-new relationship.”

With Bathing In Sunshine, Sheron delivers a feel-good alternative pop-rock journey that embraces vulnerability without losing its uplifting edge. In a music landscape often dominated by heartbreak and cynicism, the release instead focuses on the emotional intensity of connection, passion, and the fleeting perfection that defines the early stages of romance.
