Johannesburg, 17 June 2026 | TCL has introduced SQD-Mini LED (Super Quantum Dot Mini LED) to the South African market, marking the latest advancement in premium large-screen display technology and setting a new benchmark for brightness, colour precision, and contrast performance.

Backed by its position as the Global No.1 Mini LED and Ultra Large Screen TV brand (75”+) according to OMDIA 2025, TCL continues to push the boundaries of display innovation with the introduction of SQD-Mini LED in South Africa.

But what exactly is SQD-Mini LED, and why is it being positioned as the next pinnacle of display technology?

A Next-Generation Evolution of Mini LED

SQD-Mini LED represents a significant evolution of QD-Mini LED technology. Through systematic improvements to the Mini LED backlight, Quantum Dot layer, and the colour filter within the LCD panel, it delivers leading performance in brightness, colour accuracy, and contrast.

Unlike RGB Mini LED, which attempts to change the light source itself, SQD-Mini LED uses a highly refined blue LED backlight paired with newly formulated quantum dots and TCL’s proprietary Ultra Colour Filter. This eliminates colour crosstalk and achieves up to a 33% boost in colour gamut and a 69% improvement in quantum dot accuracy compared to previous generations.

How SQD-Mini LED Compares to Other Technologies

VS RGB Mini LED: SQD-Mini LED offers three times more precise dimming zones, higher brightness, a more stable wide colour gamut, and is completely free from colour crosstalk (where colours bleed into each other).

VS OLED: SQD-Mini LED delivers substantially higher peak brightness, reaching up to 10,000 nits in flagship models, along with greater long-term durability and stronger performance in ultra large screen formats, all while eliminating the risk of permanent burn-in.

Ultimate Colour

Through TCL’s Super QLED technology and advanced Ultra Colour Filter, SQD-Mini LED achieves full coverage of the BT.2020 colour space, the widest standard for HDR content and the highest standard for colour accuracy used in Hollywood mastering. This results in richer, purer, and more lifelike colours that stay true to the creator’s intent.

Ultimate Brightness

Flagship SQD-Mini LED models can reach peak brightness of 10,000 nits, revealing incredible detail in both bright and dark scenes while maintaining accurate colours, perfect for bright South African living rooms and high-dynamic-range content.

Ultimate Contrast

With up to 20,736 local dimming zones (on the largest models), combined with TCL’s All-Domain Halo Control Technology, SQD-Mini LED delivers deeper blacks, reduced haloing, and exceptional shadow detail for a more cinematic experience.

Superior Panel Technology

TCL’s specially engineered glass and anti-reflection coating produce noticeably crisper, clearer images with reduced glare and enhanced native contrast, even in bright daylight.

Built For Big-Screen Viewing

As larger TVs become the norm, SQD-Mini LED is specifically designed to perform at scale. Compared to technologies like OLED, it offers higher brightness on bigger screens, a longer lifespan and more stable colour performance over time

Immersive Audio by Bang & Olufsen

Higher-end models feature professionally tuned Bang & Olufsen audio systems, delivering powerful, spatial sound that perfectly complements the stunning visuals.

Making Premium Accessible

By bringing flagship-level display performance, Bang & Olufsen-tuned audio, and ultra-large screen options into more attainable premium segments, TCL is expanding access to next-generation home cinema experiences for South African consumers.

“South African consumers should never have to compromise on picture quality when investing in a premium home entertainment experience. As the Global No.1 Mini LED and Ultra Large Screen TV brand, TCL is proud to bring SQD-Mini LED to the local market, delivering breakthrough brightness, cinema-grade colour precision, advanced light control, and immersive Bang & Olufsen audio in a way that makes true flagship performance more accessible than ever,” said Mr. Mike Chen, General Manager at TCL South Africa.

With SQD-Mini LED, TCL is setting a new benchmark for premium home entertainment in South Africa, combining breakthrough display innovation, immersive Bang & Olufsen audio, and large-screen leadership into a more accessible premium proposition. The technology will debut across TCL’s 2026 flagship television lineup, alongside selected Audio by Bang & Olufsen models and connected Google smart home appliances, with retail availability details to be announced soon.

Johannesburg, 24 February 2025 | When it comes to buying a new television, bigger often feels better. But according to leading global consumer electronics brand TCL South Africa, understanding what “TV inches” actually measure could be the difference between creating the perfect home cinema experience, or ending up with a screen that overwhelms your space.

With demand for 65-inch and larger screens accelerating, TCL is encouraging consumers to think beyond “bigger is better” and instead focus on choosing the right size for their space, viewing distance and lifestyle.

“Choosing the right TV size is about creating an immersive, comfortable viewing experience tailored to your space and lifestyle,” says Mike Chen, General Manager of TCL South Africa. “In 2026, we’re seeing a clear industry trend toward larger screens, driven by consumers’ desire for that true cinematic feel, whether it’s cheering on the Vodacom Bulls, binge-watching series, or hosting family movie nights. Consumers want a screen that fits seamlessly without overwhelming the room.”

As more South Africans upgrade to larger screens, TCL is helping consumers make smarter decisions by demystifying one of the most misunderstood aspects of TV buying: screen size.

What TV Inches Really Measure

When a television is labelled as 55 inches, 65 inches or 75 inches, that number refers to the diagonal measurement of the screen from corner to corner, not the width. This common misconception often leads to purchasing errors, where the TV doesn’t fit a media console or appears disproportionate on a wall.

For modern 16:9 widescreen TVs, this translates to practical dimensions: a slim-bezel 55-inch model is roughly 48 inches wide and 27 inches tall, ideal for standard media consoles, while a 75-inch model stretches to about 66 inches wide and 37 inches tall, perfect for open living rooms or wall mounting.

Matching Screen Size to Viewing Distance

Beyond fitting the TV into your room, viewing comfort is just as important. Larger screens create a more immersive field of view, ideal for sport, gaming and blockbuster films, but they must match your seating distance.

TCL recommends the following viewing distances for optimal comfort with 4K resolution:

65-inch TV → approximately 1.8–2 metres

75-inch TV → approximately 2.3 metres

85-inch TV → approximately 2.6 metres

98-inch TV → approximately 3 metres

115-inch TV → approximately 3.5 metres

“As screen technology improves, particularly with 4K and Mini LED innovations, viewers can sit closer without losing clarity,” says Chen. “The key is balancing immersion with comfort. A screen that’s too large for a small bedroom can cause visual fatigue, while a screen that’s too small for a large living room won’t deliver the cinematic impact consumers expect.”

The Sweet Spot for South African Living Rooms

According to TCL, the ideal screen size depends on viewing distance. For a sofa positioned about 2.5 metres from the TV, a 65-inch screen is typically the sweet spot. That’s where the TCL C6K comes in. As a standout in TCL’s current range, the C6K delivers premium QD-Mini LED performance in screen sizes perfectly suited to modern South African living rooms.

TVs like the TCL C6K combine advanced Mini LED backlight control, high brightness levels and refined picture contrast with screen sizes that align with the most common local viewing distances, particularly the 65-inch and 75-inch range.

“The C6K offers the ideal balance of size, performance and value,” says Chen. “It’s large enough to feel cinematic, powerful enough to showcase next-generation picture quality, yet proportioned perfectly for most living rooms.”

A Structural Shift Toward Large-Format Viewing

Industry trends show consumers are no longer upgrading TVs purely on impulse. Screen size selection has become a considered technical decision, influenced by room layout, mounting preferences and picture technology.

“We’re seeing a clear move toward intentional home entertainment design,” Chen concludes. “Consumers aren’t just buying bigger screens; they’re investing in better viewing experiences. The C6K represents that evolution: intelligent sizing, advanced Mini LED precision and premium performance, all in one cohesive platform.”

Johannesburg, 11 November 2025 | In today’s hyper-connected world, the living room is no longer just a place to unwind; it’s the epicentre of smart living. Smart TVs are fast becoming the control centres of connected homes, and brands like TCL are helping shape what that looks like. With its latest smart TV range, including the feature-rich C6K model, TCL is bridging the gap between entertainment and intelligent living through seamless Internet of Things (IoT) integration.

Today’s smart TVs offer far more than entertainment; they’re capable of managing a wide range of connected devices across the home. TCL’s latest models, like the just-released C6K, for example, include built-in IoT capabilities that support voice assistants and smart platforms. These allow users to manage and interact with their entire connected home, all from one screen or a single voice command.

Seamless Control, Smarter Living

TCL’s IoT-enabled TVs are designed to transform ordinary homes into connected ecosystems. Compatible with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and the TCL Home App, these TVs serve as command hubs for all your smart devices. From the couch, or even remotely via your phone, you can adjust air conditioning settings, dim or switch off lights, activate robot vacuums, start a load of laundry, monitor smart cameras and more.

Thanks to support for both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth device protocols, TCL TVs can interface with a wide range of appliances and platforms. That means no more juggling remotes or switching between apps — control everything in your home from one place.

Everything, from One Screen

The modern home needs more than just smart devices; it needs devices that speak to each other. This kind of functionality is exactly what connected households are looking for, and what brands like TCL are now making standard. Using the TCL Home App, users can effortlessly sync, monitor, and control everything in real time.

Whether you’re streaming your favourite drama, adjusting the temperature for the perfect binge-watch setup, or checking if the washing machine has finished a cycle, it’s all done from one screen. This isn’t just about functionality; it’s about transforming how people interact with their homes. The TV becomes a dynamic, intuitive interface that adapts to your lifestyle, a digital concierge that connects you to your environment. Voice control allows users to operate appliances hands-free, whether it’s switching off lights, adjusting temperature, or launching a load of laundry, helping smart living feel less like a novelty and more like the new normal.

A Future-Proofed Entertainment Experience

As smart homes continue to evolve, TCL ensures its technology is future-ready. The latest models come equipped with quad-core processors for smooth multitasking, enhanced RAM and storage for app performance, an AI-driven OS that learns user behaviour and suggests routines, support for firmware upgrades that keep the TV compatible with new IoT platforms and 4K resolution, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+, ensuring entertainment quality isn’t sacrificed for utility. The result? A TV that evolves with your needs, and your tech.

“Our vision has always been to integrate world-class technology with everyday convenience,” says Mr Mike Chen, General Manager of TCL South Africa. “With IoT integration, our TVs go beyond entertainment. They become a smart interface for everyday tasks, allowing people to automate daily routines, control connected devices, and create smarter living environments, all from one screen. Whether it’s creating automation scenes, checking appliance statuses, or syncing devices across platforms, our TVs bring simplicity and intelligence into the heart of the home.”

TCL understands that South African households are increasingly embracing smart tech. That’s why the brand ensures its TVs integrate easily with locally available smart devices and services.

Whether you’re a tech enthusiast or just beginning your smart home journey, TCL’s IoT-enabled TVs offer a seamless bridge between lifestyle and innovation. With intuitive control, intelligent design, and unmatched versatility, TCL is helping users reimagine what’s possible, not just on screen, but throughout the entire home.

In audio, TCL also featured additional innovative experiences in collaboration with Dolby. TCL showcased the new Z100 Wireless Free Sound Speaker. When paired with TCL TVs that support Dolby Atmos FlexConnect, users can choose how they want to arrange their speakers bringing freedom and flexibility to incredible immersive home theater experiences. TCL also announced that the next generation of Dolby Vision, Dolby Vision 2, is planned to come soon to TCL TVs to further elevate the TV viewing experience.

AI-Powered Smart Living: Redefining Game-day Moments at Home

Underpinning TCL’s portfolio at IFA 2025 was the company’s human-centric AI, built on Eagle Lab’s Turing Platform, which enables smarter, more personalised experiences across TVs, air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, smartphones, and more.

The TCL FreshIN 3.0 Air Conditioner features AI Health, Voice Control, and AI Energy Saving, offering ultra-quiet fresh air with QuadruPuri purification, while VoxIN, BreezeIN, and SaveIN AI enhance convenience, comfort, and energy efficiency.
Adding companionship to multiple scenarios was TCL AiMe—the world’s first modular AI companion robot. Making its first appearance in Europe at the show, TCL AiMe blends lifelike expressions, interactive AI, and smart living features to turn everyday moments into opportunities to imagine, play, and connect.

Vibrant Experience with Olympic Spirit

As a Worldwide Olympic Partner, TCL brought the excitement of the Winter Olympics to IFA 2025 with a series of interactive experiences inspired by the upcoming Milano Cortina 2026 games. Among them was a dedicated Winter Olympics Zone featuring mascots Milo and Tina that made a memorable stop for IFA visitors.

Johannesburg, 18 August 2025 – Global electronics leader TCL Electronics, the official Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner in the Home Audiovisual Equipment and Home Appliances category, and Arsenal’s global consumer electronics partner, is expanding its home appliance range in South Africa with the launch of two premium front-loading washing machines: the TCL P1108FLG 8kg Front Loading Washer Direct Drive and the TCL 10/6Kg C2110WDG Front Loader Washing Machine Wash & Dryer.

Designed for modern living, these next-generation models combine cutting-edge technology, energy efficiency, and elegant design to deliver a smarter, more seamless laundry experience for South African homes.

Laundry, Elevated: Premium Features for Modern Homes

Both models feature TCL’s advanced Direct Drive Motor technology, a significant innovation in washing machines, offering a great advantage to South African consumers. The technology means the washing machine is a quieter, more efficient, and longer-lasting appliance. Unlike traditional motors that rely on a belt and pulley system, the Direct Drive Motor is connected directly to the drum, reducing mechanical friction and energy loss. This means fewer moving parts, less wear and tear, and greater reliability over time. For the user, it translates into powerful yet gentle washing, lower energy consumption, and significantly reduced noise and vibration. With enhanced precision control, TCL’s Direct Drive Motor also adapts the drum’s movement to suit different fabrics and load sizes, ensuring clothes are cleaned thoroughly while being treated with care.

With its honeycomb drum design, the machine provides gentle yet effective fabric care, reducing wear and tear while delivering an outstanding wash. The Hygiene Care function offers an extra layer of cleanliness, ensuring every wash cycle eliminates bacteria and allergens, ideal for families prioritising health and hygiene.

Further enhancing the washing experience is the Jet Spray Wash technology, which delivers powerful water streams for deeper cleaning and faster rinsing, making laundry more efficient than ever before.

TCL P1108FLG 8 kg Front Loading Washer Direct Drive

The TCL P1108FLG 8 kg Front Loading Washer Direct Drive is engineered for powerful yet gentle cleaning. Its TCL Magic Flow technology intelligently adjusts water flow and drum motion according to fabric type and load size, offering eight distinct motion patterns for enhanced stain removal, improved detergent dispersion, and superior fabric care. It also features Air Refresh and Steam Wash functions to freshen clothes without a full wash, alongside a 15-minute Quick Wash option and a self-cleaning Drum Clean cycle.

TCL 10/6 kg C2110WDG Front Loader Washing Machine Wash & Dryer

The TCL 10/6 kg C2110WDG Front Loader Washing Machine Wash & Dryer is an all-in-one solution for busy households, offering a comprehensive one-hour wash and dry cycle for maximum efficiency. The Add Garment function allows users to add forgotten items mid-cycle, while Air Refresh and Steam Wash capabilities remove wrinkles and odours with ease. For added convenience, it includes a 15-minute quick wash, a 24-hour delay start feature, and heat sterilisation to eliminate common allergens and ensure a more hygienic laundry experience.

Backed by TCL’s commitment to quality, each washing machine comes with a 20-year DD Motor warranty and a 3-year product warranty, offering long-term peace of mind for customers.

“We are excited to bring these innovative washing machines to the South African market,” says Mike Chen, General Manager of TCL South Africa. “For us, home appliances should not only perform exceptionally but also fit seamlessly into our customers’ lifestyles. These models reflect TCL’s dedication to designing intelligent, efficient, and premium-quality products that make everyday living easier.”

The TCL P1108FLG 8 kg Front Loading Washer Direct Drive and the TCL 10/6 kg C2110WDG Front Loader Washing Machine Wash & Dryer are available exclusively at all HiFi and Incredible stores across South Africa. The machines retail at R8,999 and R10,999, respectively.
