25 Years of Dedication – the entrée for what is to come.
When you are a part of the privileged media circles in South Africa’s Entertainment industry, your reliance on publicity people is paramount, as your job, and in my case my hobby, will be stagnant without this most valuable, intangible resource.
Over the years, I have worked with some of the best public relations gurus South Africa has. I am talking about the likes of Debra de Souza, Mark Sage, Allison Foat, Lani Lombard, Ingrid Engelbrecht, and the list goes on and on. But today, we are focusing on one of the most dedicated, and most reliable publicists, Collett Dawson.
Last night, at the Johannian at the St. John’s College in Houghton, media, friends and guests all gathered to celebrate Dawson’s 25th anniversary in the entertainment industry. This is not just a silver milestone to be celebrated, but her production company, The CoLab Network, was also a part of the festivities, bragging 4 years of successful shows.
During this event, Dawson showcased some of the productions that audiences will be experiencing in the upcoming year, and this was done in style. Acts like MiG Ayesa, Connell Cruise, as well as Tima Reece performed at this glamorous function. Keep an eye on Stage and Screen for more information on The CoLab Network’s “The Gents” and “The Headlinerz” coming soon.
Collett Dawson is seen as a publicist, producer, as well as a strategist, brand profiler and celebrity broker. Her relationship with Stage and Screen is valuable, and it is with a very grateful heart that we congratulate Collett Dawson on 25 years of dedication to the industry.
It was through Collett Dawson, that Stage and Screen was first introduced to the South African Movie industry, with our first ever coverage of the Afrikaans Film, Bakgat 2 and the Nightdrive. After this, the love for SA movies grew, where it is a regular fixed feature on Stage and Screen.
Stage and Screen are proud to cover shows like The Ten Tenors, Burn The Floor, Boys in the Photograph, and six Janice Honeyman Pantomimes, all of which Dawson has been involved with, as publicist. It will just take too long to mention all the shows she has invited us to, but each and every one is a treasured memory.
In a past interview with the Comaro Chronicle, Dawson explained that the role of a publicist is to be behind the scene. “It’s not your roll to be out in the front. You have to understand the difference between skills, pay attention to detail and will have to be able to multi task” Collett said. “You have to have excellent work ethics”.
These words of wisdom are clearly evident in how Collett goes about doing what she does. Our invites are always followed up with reminders, there is always that special tweet making us feel so valued on the day of an opening performance, and you can really expect the urgent special publicity photos very soon after just one call.
Collett, from all of us here at Stage and Screen, thank you so much for everything. Big Congratulations on the milestones you have achieved in the past 25 years. We are blessed and so honoured to have been a part of your journey. Most of all, we are looking forward to the next phase, where we believe you will go from strength to strength.
