Sandra Prinsloo stars in one-woman play at The Fugard
Moedertaal, starring Sandra Prinsloo, will be presented by Naskrif Produksies at the Fugard Studio Theatre for a limited season from 14 November to 2 December 2017.
The production comes to the Fugard Theatre off the theatre festival circuit where it played to full houses and standing ovations. Written and directed by Nico Scheepers, Moedertaal is the next instalment in Sandra Prinsloo’s trifecta of one-woman plays that began so beautifully with Die Naaimasjien and Oskar en die Pienk Tannie. Moedertaal is a raw and moving journey through life, a tender story about love and compassion as told by ‘Nellie’, played by Prinsloo.
Previously seen on the Fugard Theatre stage in Wie’s Bang vir Virginia Woolf and So Ry Miss Daisy, multiple award-winning actress and icon Sandra Prinsloo needs no introduction to any audience. A doyenne of the South African stage, she brings an undeniable fire to every part she plays.
Director Nico Scheepers, who both wrote the play and composed the music, is one of the most exciting young theatre makers in this country. His acclaimed productions include Wentel with Anna-Mart van der Merwe, Rooivalk (a kykNET Fiësta award winner for Best New Afrikaans production and Best Play) and Amper Vrystaat. Earlier this year he directed a celebrated season of Hemelruim at the Fugard Theatre.
Moedertaal is performed in Afrikaans with English surtitles.
