Pieter Toerien presents this play by Aaron Posner, adapted from the Chaim Potok novel, My Name is Asher Lev. Asher Lev is a young Jew growing up in Brooklyn in the 1940s. Against the backdrop of this most tumultuous time in history, Asher Lev discovers he is a gifted artist while struggling with a bereaved mother and an absent father. His exceptional artistic talent draws opposition not only from his own strict Hasidic community, which believes art is a waste of time, but also from his parents. Asher is willing to challenge the expectations of his community and the unhappiness of his family but will have to pay a terrible price for the right to use his gift.
