So what do you get when Afrikaans Boy Band meets Former Idols Top 10 Finalist? You get an EP Album that can easily be put on repeat.
A successful project like this is not to be underestimated, seeing that you have Daniel Baron, who opened for Bon Jovi in 2013, and Adam, the award winning Boy Band who opened for Westlife and Air-Supply in 2011 and 2014 respectively, collaborating to create this very unique sound.
The EP consists of 7 Tracks, starting with their first hit that was released on the 6th of June 2015, Say What you Want, and ends with the acoustic version of the same song. The 5 songs in between, are gems in its own right, and I would say a few more single releases can come out of it.
Except for the track You, which came from the pen of Joy N. M. Deb, Robin Stjernberg, Linna M. H. Deb and Joakim H. Haukaas, all the songs on the EP were written by Hugo Ludik and Daniel Baron, who performed together as session musicians even before Ludik started Adam, who now consists of himself, Kyle Grant and Reynardt Hugo.
It will be impossible for me to pinpoint the genre of this EP to one specific style. Say what you want, has the feel of Mumford and Sons, whereas the title track, Young and Wild, reminds me of Indecent Obsession, from my own younger and wilder years.
My Favourite song on the EP, and also their latest release, How, is in turn a ballad, showcasing four handsome harmonies, together with the pitch-perfect use of their Falsetto voices, which will surely see this single as number 1 on the charts, in no time.
So, in my humble opinion, I have to say something negative. Why is it, that when you are just enjoying an album like this, made proudly in South Africa, you come to the end of it after only 7 songs? There should be more to come, especially when something that is this original, and something that could potentially become a definitive sound of South African Pop, can steer SA music in a totally new direction.
Maybe if I am lucky, they will do a cover of Indecent Obesssion’s Strawberry Lips, dedicated to Stage and Screen, when they are recording their second, full track album.
The seven tracks are:
- Say what you Want
- You
- How
- We Made it
- Young and Wild
- City of Dreams
- Say what you Want (Acoustic)
All songs were produced, arranged, programmed and mixed by Robin Kielly, except City of Dreams, which was produced and recorded at Muse Studios.
The EP Young and Wild is now available on iTunes, and the Apple Music Store, as well as in a close-by music shop. The EP is marketed and distributed by Universal Music Group.
