<p>The Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards announced its nominees for 2017. These annual awards are regarded amongst the most valued and prestigious in the South African performing arts industry. This year&#8217;s ceremony will take place on Sunday, 18 March at 17:30 at the Baxter Theatre Centre in Cape Town and promises to be an &#8220;Elegantly Extravagant&#8221; evening.</p>

<p><strong><em>Noem My Skollie</em></strong> vertel die verhaal van vier tieners, AB (<em>Austin Rose</em>) en sy drie beste vriende Gimba (<em>Ethan Patton</em>), Gif (<em>Joshua Vraagom</em>) en Shorty (<em>Valentino de Klerk</em>) wat in die armmoedige bendewêreld van die Kaapse Vlakte grootword.  Afgesien van hulle omstandighede probeer die kinders die bendes vermy wat hulle daaglikse lewens infiltreer, maar wanneer AB deur ’n traumatiese ondervinding gaan, besluit hulle om ’n bende te stig om hulself te beskerm.</p>
<p>Die vier vriende, wat nou soos broers is, pleeg nie ernstige misdade nie, maar ten spyte daarvan hou die polisie hulle dop deur hul tienerjare en totdat hulle ’n groep gewilde jong mans word. Uituindelik word die ouer AB (<em>Dann-jacques Mouton</em>) en Gimba (<em>Gantane Kusch</em>) gearresteer tydens ’n inbraak en word hulle tot twee jaar tronkstraf gevonnis.  Dit is hier, in die gewelddadige omgewing van die tronk, dat AB besluit om sy talent vir storievertel te gebruik om die geharde misdadigers te vermaak en sy status te verhoog, terwyl sy vriend, Gimba, ’n ander pad inslaan om sy veiligheid te waarborg.</p>

<p>Wanneer AB uit die tronk vrygelaat word, gaan hy voort met die verhouding met sy vriendin, Jenny (<em>Tarryn Wyngaard</em>) en probeer gevolglik fokus op storieskryf om haar te beïndruk, maar sy bendevriende oortuig hom om ’n laaste keer weer by hulle aan te sluit, ’n besluit wat skokkende gevolge vir hulle almal het.</p>
<p><strong><em>Noem My Skollie</em></strong> is ’n grootskerm-rolprentervaring wat kykers sal meevoer na ’n wêreld op die Vlaktes wat nog nooit op so ’n outentieke manier uitgebeeld is nie.  Die rolprent is pragtig verfilm met fyn aandag tot detail, die gemoed van die 1960’s en bied oortuigende vertolkings deur ’n n groep vereerde Suid-Afrikaanse akteurs en verfrissende nuwe talent.   Die film is deurlopend onderhoudend en vermaaklik en lewer ’n gewedlige sterk emosionele impak.</p>
<p><strong><em>Noem My Skollie</em></strong> dra die temas van vriendskap, verraad, vergifnis, aanvaarding, die behoefte aan ’n beter lewe, hoop en liefde oor. Die titel van die film sinspeel op die ou gesegde dat ’n mens niemand op hulle voorkoms moet oordeel nie en bevorder die opvatting dat elkeen ’n talent het, selfs al is dit somtyds moeilik om te vind en is daar moontlik ‘n prys daaraan gekoppel.</p>
<p>John W. Fredericks het sy skoolloopbaan in sy tienerjare vaarwel geroep en het baie jare van sy jeug in die tronk deurgebring. Maar, hy het in sy sestigs daarin geslaag om ’n uitstekende draaiboek van wêreldgehalte te skryf.</p>

<p><strong><em>Noem My Skollie</em></strong> sal aanklank vind by alle Suid-Afrikaanse gehore maar veral by diegene wat die gewelddadige werklikheid van die wêreld van die storie kan konfronteer en bereid is om die oorwinning van die menslike gees te vier.</p>
<p>Die film is in Afrikaans met Engelse onderskrifte.</p>
<p>Die kragtige klankbaan is deur die internasionaal erkende Kaapse musikant Kyle Shepherd gekomponeer – Spepherd het die Standard Bank Jong Kunstenaar van die Jaar Toekenning in 2014 gewen.</p>
<p>Die rolverdeling bestaan ook uit, onder meer, Christian Bennett, Gershwin Mias, Oscar Peterson, Abdu Adams, Peter Butler, Charlton George, Jill Levenberg, Denise Newman, Sandi Schultz, Andre Roothman, Paul du Toit en Irshaad Ally asook n fantastiese vertoning deur die nuweling David Manuel wat die rol van die tronkbaas vertolk. Manuel was nog op parool toe die film gemaak is.</p>
<p><strong><em>Noem My Skollie</em></strong> is vervaardig deur David Max Brown en Moshidi Motshegwa (Maxi-D Productions) in samewerking met M-Net, kykNET, die NFVF en die DTI en word deur Ster-Kinekor Entertainment versprei.</p>
<p>Suid-Afrikaanse gehore kan uitsien na die vrystelling van Daryne Joshua se regisseursdebuut,<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><b><i>Noem My Skollie</i></b>, wat landswyd op Vrydag 2 September 2016 uitgereik word.</p>

<p>Van die eerste oomblik af vang dié rolprent jou aandag vas, dit skok jou en roer die hartsnare. Geskoei op die lewensverhaal van die skrywer, John W. Fredericks speel <em>Noem My Skollie</em> af op die Kaapse Vlakte in die 1960&#8217;s.</p>
<p><em>Noem My Skollie</em> neem jou van die Kaapse Vlakte, na Polsmoor-gevangenis en terug na die Kaapse vlakte – maar geen moeite is ontsien om die realiteit van die grusame gebeure van die plek en die tyd by die gehoor uit te bring nie.</p>
<p>Vier tieners, AB (Austin Rose) en sy makkers, Gimba (Ethan Patton), Gif (Joshua Vraagdom) en Shorty (Valentino de Klerk) word groot in swaar omstandighede wat gekenmerk word deur armoede, bendes en die geweld wat daarmee gepaard gaan.  Ten spyte van die versoekings, probeer die vier vriende om die lewe van &#8216;n bendelid vry te spring. &#8216;n Traumatiese ervaring swaai egter AB se kop in &#8216;n ander rigting en hy en sy makkers stig hulle eie bende. Die besluit word geneem om hulself te beskerm. Die tieners word soos bloedbroers en pleeg misdade, maar van &#8216;n minder ernstige aard.  Die lang arm van die gereg is egter iets wat hulle nie kan vryspring nie.</p>

<p>&#8216;n Ouer AB (Dann-Jacques Mouton) en Gimba (Gantane Kusch) beland agter die tralies van Polsmoor.</p>
<p>Dis hier waar die genadelose tronklewe die twee beetpak. AB is &#8216;n talentvolle storieverteller en span die talent in om die gevangenes te vermaak en so ook homself te beskerm. Gimba kies egter &#8216;n heel ander roete om sy eie veiligheid te verseker&#8230;</p>
<p>En na twee jaar moet die twee manne terug na die Kaapse Vlakte waar die lewe aangaan soos voorheen.</p>
<p>Gehore kan met rede uitsien na die regisseur, Daryne Joshua se eerste probeerslag wat die lewe van die jeugdiges uitbeeld op &#8216;n realistiese manier wat nog nooit van tevore gedoen is nie.</p>
<p>&#8216;n Hartroerende verhaal wat die veggees van die mens in moeilike omstandighede uitbeeld. Dit is onstellend maar sonder enige twyfel die kyk werd.</p>

<p>Ander akteurs wat hulle verskyning in <em>Noem my Skollie</em> maak, is Gershwin Mias as die ouer Shorty, Christian Bennet as die ouer Gif, David Manual as die skollie himself, Gums. Abduraghmaan Admas as Mr C, en Tarryn Wyngaard as die roos onder die dorings, Jenny. Die ondersteunende rolle onder andere word vertolk deur Charlton George, Jill Levenberg, Sandi Schultz, Andre Roothman, Paul du Toit.</p>
<p>Prys gaan ook aan die kreatiewe span, wat so ‘n produksie op die silwerdoek laat realiser. Met ‘n uitstekende draaiboek van Fredericks, grypenswaardige regie deur Joshua, is daar ook die inspirerende klankbaan van die internasionaal erkende Kyle Shepherd wat die prentjie vervolmaak. Die puik passende tema-lied, word gesing deur mede-akteur, Hemelbesem.</p>
<p>Niks is volmaak nie, maar dit is &#8216;n rolprent wat so ampertjies &#8216;n 10 uit 10 verdien. <em>Noem my Skollie </em>is eg Suid-Afrikaans, en begin draai in teaters landwyd,k op 2 September 2016.</p>
