Johannesburg, 18 June 2025: The American crime-drama thriller 61st Street returns for an exhilarating second season on Universal TV (DStv 117). The eight-part series premieres on 19 June 2025, with new episodes airing every Thursday at 8pm (CAT) until 1 August.

61st Street tells the story of Moses Johnson, a promising Black high school athlete, who gets swept up in the Chicago criminal justice system. He is arrested as a supposed gang member after an officer dies during a drug bust gone wrong. Franklin Roberts, who has promised his wife that he will retire as a public defender, takes on Johnson’s case because he recognises its potential to upend the entire Chicago judicial system, challenging the institutional racism and endemic corruption at its heart.

Johannesburg, 20 May 2025: Season 3 of Whitstable Pearl returns to Universal TV later this month. The third installment of the beloved crime drama premieres on Tuesday 27 May, with new episodes airing every Tuesday at 8pm until 1 July 2025.

In Season Three, Pearl is fully immersed in her private investigating, leaving most of the running of the restaurant to Dolly and Ruby. Pearl is still with her teacher boyfriend Tom when the season begins, but this relationship will be tested as he pushes to take the relationship to another level. Mike has been away for a few months and arrives back a changed man—leaner, fitter, and more Zen. But will this last?

The series arc steers away from the will-they-won’t-they element of Season Two. There is still a deep connection between them, but Pearl’s concern is more about Mike’s state of mind. The daily grind of police work soon tarnishes his newly found calm. As their paths continually cross, solving Whitstable crimes, Pearl is determined to help Mike find closure for his wife’s death and help him gain some inner peace.

Johannesburg – 17 April 2025: Season 2 of Wild Cards, starring Giacomo Gianniotti (Grey’s Anatomy) and Vanessa Morgan (Riverdale), returns to Universal TV on Monday, 21 April 2025. New episodes of the unmissable crime-drama air every Monday at 20.00 until the season finale on 14 July.

Wild Cards is a crime-solving procedural with a comedic twist that follows the unlikely duo of a by-the-book, sardonic cop Cole Ellis (Giacomo Gianniotti), and a spirited, clever con woman, Max Mitchell (Vanessa Morgan). They are partnered together, and each uses their unique skills to solve crimes. For Ellis, that means hard-boiled, shoe-leather police work; for Max, it means accents, disguises, schemes, and generally befriending everyone in sight while driving Ellis absolutely nuts.

Season 1’s cliffhanger found Ellis about to arrest Max for her heist of a 33-million-dollar jewel, but his feelings of betrayal are sidelined by a bombshell revelation from Max; she’s learned the identity of his brother’s murderer. Season 2 raises the stakes for the duo both in terms of the cases they’re tasked to solve in each episode and their feelings for each other.

From Blink49 Studios, Front Street Pictures and Piller/Segan in association with The CW for commissioning broadcaster CBC in Canada, Wild Cards is created by Michael Konyves. Executive producers include Konyves, pilot director James Genn, Shawn Piller, Lloyd Segan, and writers Alexandra Zarowny and James Thorpe. Wild Cards is produced by Charles Cooper and Virginia Rankin. The series is overseen by Carolyn Newman, Tashi Bieler and Alix Steerman on behalf of Blink49 Studios. International distribution is handled by FIFTH SEASON.

Season 2 of Wild Cards premieres on Universal TV on 21 April at 20:00, with new episodes airing every Monday until 14 July 2025.

Universal TV is available on DStv Channel 117 across Africa.
