Dickens’ ever-popular story of the boy who asked for more – Oliver! – is one of the world’s most cherished stage musicals. With a sensational score, including Food Glorious Food, Consider Yourself, You’ve Got to Pick-a-Pocket or Two, I’d Do Anything, Oom Pah Pah, As Long As He Needs Me and many more, Oliver! promises to captivate Jo’Burg audiences and is the perfect show for the whole family to enjoy!

Lionel Bart’s Oliver!, presented by Pieter Toerien with Cape Town Opera by special arrangement with Cameron Mackintosh, is based on Charles Dickens’ timeless novel Oliver Twist, a heartwarming and exhilarating musical that has captivated audiences for generations. Featuring a score by Lionel Bart, the production brings to life the unforgettable journey of a young orphan navigating the streets of Victorian London in search of family, belonging and hope.

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century London, the story follows Oliver, a brave young boy who escapes the harsh conditions of a workhouse and finds himself entangled with a colourful cast of characters, including the cunning Fagin, the kind-hearted Nancy and the infamous Artful Dodger. Through moments of hardship and triumph, Oliver! explores themes of resilience, compassion and the enduring human spirit.

Steven Stead will direct the upcoming production at TEATRO, featuring spectacular staging that combines dynamic choreography, richly detailed costumes, and a superb South African cast to deliver a visually stunning and emotionally engaging performance. Audiences can expect a production that honours the musical’s classic roots while bringing fresh energy and contemporary flair to this beloved story.

Oliver! is a must-see theatrical event for everyone’s diaries in 2027! The phenomenal South African cast will be announced soon.

Much-loved South African comedian Alan Committie returns to Johannesburg for his 28th brand-new solo show – AV-A-LAUGH-TA; stand-up comedy to keep the blues away!

Written and performed by Alan Committie with Direction by Christopher Weare, AVALAUGHTA will be on stage at Pieter Toerien’s Montecasino Theatre from 20 March until 12 April 2026.

Does everything and everyone feel completely alien?
How often in a day do we scream “stop the world, I wanna get off”
or “Nothing on earth makes sense”
or “ stop acting from Uranus”
Sit back, relax and AVA-LAUGH…ta!

Committie is back at Montecasino with some all-new routines and laughs to help us through this Easter period.

This all-new solo show features his usual witty wordplay, fast-paced japes and jibes, madcap physical hi-jinx and a comic look at events and madnesses from 2025. Nothing is sacred… Topics include: passport photo madness, the top and tail of weddings and funerals, audiobooks gone wrong, musical theatre escapes, Italian bus journeys, password pressures and more.

PLUS, Committie recreates the 12 best minutes of the 1997 hit movie TITANIC to end the show! Of course, no matter how extraterrestrial it all feels, there is always room for a flipchart mindmap!

Committie is delighted to be returning to Joburg, his second home, to bring some much-needed relief to the stresses of life “Right now, we need to be gathering in groups of giggles, guffaws and belly laughs. It’s the perfect way to remind us of our humanity and connection.”

In space, nobody can hear you scream (with laughter), but at Montecasin,o you are welcome to laugh as loud as possible.

But now it’s back to Comedy and another installment of examining the foibles and madness of being alive in 2019!

After the Sold Out success of Love Factually and Planet Mirth, this verbally dexterous comic returns with Brand New stand-up content.

We are living in the age of bewilderment and Classy Clown is an 80-minute exploration of what we have learnt, what we must still understand and how we can keep sane…. let your tears be laughter-induced!

Using his experience as a one-time school teacher, Committie will be re-educating audiences about the hilariously and precariously fragile state of the world:

Fluctuating from flossing to fiscal fragility and bouncing from buying bedding to breeding dogs, this crazy comedian is sure to cover everything you need to know in this hilarious comedy-curriculum…

Classy Clown promises textbook laughs. Miss this and go straight to detention!

The show is directed by Fleur du Cap Lifetime achievement winner – Christopher Weare.

Gallico’s story of a lonely recluse and a young girl, and the surprising friendship that blossoms between them as they nurse a wild goose back to health, has charmed fans since it was first published in 1940. Almost 80 years later, the story of love in a time of war continues to enchant.

Contagious Theatre’s rendition of the beloved tale, told through the compelling performances of Taryn Bennett, James Cairns, and under the direction of Jenine Collocott, with the use of masks and ingenious staging, brings to life all the poignancy and humanity that makes this an evergreen favourite.

Catch The Snow Goose at Pieter Toerien’s Studio Theatre, Montecasino Boulevard from Wednesday 30 October to Sunday 24 November.
