3rd Album for SA’s most Promising Classical Composers.

Friday, 2 August, saw the release of a brand new album by Caroline Leisegang, one of the youngest classical composers in South African history and winner of the iTunes ‘Best of 2015’ Award for Best Classical Album. Her third official offering, My Body of Preludes, comes after the release of her debut album Øyeblikk in 2015, and sophomore album Simple Circles in 2016.

My Body of Preludes was written in 2017 over a period of 15 months, and recorded in June 2018 at High Sea Studios in Johannesburg. The album was produced by Jacques Du Plessis and mastered by Jacob Van der Westhuizen. Caroline mostly kept with her signature use of triplets and simple time signatures in this body of music. By using her established sound, she added different elements like strings which also acts as a bridge to her next work of music, which will be for string orchestra.

A prelude, in the Romantic sense of history, is a piece of music that can stand entirely on its own and it’s much like a person. Her intention with this album hasn’t been to capture people in music, but rather to have a conversation with them. Inspired by a line in a song which adequately captures the meaning of the album, ‘When a human strokes your skin, that is when you let them in”, Caroline aptly decided to call the album My Body of Preludes.

Since the release of her debut offering four years ago, Caroline has begun to write more simply, openly and explore her capabilities. “I’m not entirely sure of the extent of my capabilities yet, but I see my composing as a baby that reaches it’s milestones. Every musical work, for me, is like taking a first step, saying my first word, pushing my own boundaries and what I understand about myself.”

“It’s been a long time since I’ve released any music, so there’s a bit of trepidation in putting something new out there again. While I feel proud and confident in what I’ve made – it’s always nerve wracking to wait and hear how it is received. Fans can expect something new. Something that will become their own just as Øyeblikk intended. It’s something I’d like to become part of their body as well, not just my own.”

‘Net Een Shot…’ Most Famous Last Words, nou Willem Botha Lirieke…

So waarvoor wag jy? Enige iemand sal saam stem… Dit bly nooi net by Een Shot nie……..

They have performed on numerous stages across the country, and now they’re bringing a brand-new show About Time to their loyal supporters in Pretoria.

In May 2019 Du Toit tweeted about the show; ‘Corlea and I are biting the bullet, to take to the stage with some timeless classics as well as new hits”.

About Time is a collaboration between these dynamic solo artists, both celebrating a 26-year milestone in their separate music careers. Performing since she was a mere five years old, Corlea has not only rubbed shoulders with musical heavyweights but continues to wow her audiences, locally and internationally. Apart from her astounding technical vocal ability she is known for her emotional interpretation of lyrics, and pushing the boundaries with her fashion and performances.

Du Toit is also no stranger to the local music scene, he released his first album at the age of ten. Since then he had a successful solo career until he joined Touch of Class in 2012. They charmed South Africans with powerful song ‘Dans in die reën’ and a few years later they, once again, exhibited their incredible musicality and talent with a remarkable rendition of the well-known song ‘Sound of Silence’, that currently has more than six million views on Youtube.

About Time will premiere at the Rockwood Theatre in Parkview Shopping Mall on Wednesday 21 August 2019. Fans can expect powerful solo performances by Corlea and also look forward to Du Toit taking them on a soulful journey with some of his favourites. Over the past few years, these artists have proven to be a remarkable pair on stage. The show promises not to disappoint when it comes to a few popular duets.

Tickets are R160.00 per person and bookings are essential. Doors will open at 18:30 and guests are welcome to bring their own picnic baskets or order from food from the theatre restaurant. The show will start at 20:00.

For bookings, contact the Rockwood Theatre at bookings@rockwoodtheatre.co.za or call 012 368 1555.

Debut EP for 22 Year-Old Artist with a Calling

James Deacon’s debut EP The Calling is a sonic tapestry weaving soul, rock, hip-hop and pop into a release that offers us a deeply personal glimpse into the life of the 22-year-old multi-instrumentalist.

After a life-threatening accident left him unable to play the instruments that he’d learned to love (violin & guitar), James’s rehabilitation and determination propelled him to pursue a musical career regardless.

Together with recording outfit Bad Future Records, the Johannesburg-based musician has created a 6-track EP that defies genre convention, with influences that range from John Mayer to Nirvana to Al Green.

“James is an incredible, rare talent that you might come across once or twice in a lifetime of producing music,” declares Bad Future Records owner, Paul Gala, who also served as producer and co-writer on The Calling.

“Every day that I work with James I learn something from him – it’s gratifying and exciting to work with someone of such high creative calibre. His vocal ability and all-round musicianship is uniquely creative and I look forward to every session.”

In order to be as transparent as possible, James was adamant in explaining his intention behind each song on The Calling EP.

With almost forty Top 10 hit singles between the two of them, this breath-taking show promises to be filled with the music fans know and love.

Having known each other for years through the music industry, Carver asked Matthews back in 2017 to join her on stage at her annual Sunset Concert in the Western Cape. What followed was such a magical show that they did it again the following year and decided to continue playing together whenever their schedules allowed.

The performance is all about collaboration with both artists singing and playing on each other’s songs. There are also some surprise covers done in their unique style. It is an acoustic, intimate concert with Carver and Matthews not only showcasing their mastery of their instruments, but also making the audience feel like they are sitting in their lounge enjoying a private show.

Louise Carver is looking forward to this special event with Ard, saying: “I have always thought the world of Ard Matthews and his music and I’m so excited to be performing with him in this fantastic collaborative show. We perform all of our big hits together and take the songs to another level. A very special show.”

Winner of the recent reality TV show Die Kontrak, and winner of five Ghoema Music Awards, Demi Lee Moore, will leave anybody wanting more with her beautiful voice and incredible vocal range.

Charlize Berg is a South African singer, songwriter and aspiring actress. During her first years in the music industry, she became a prominent figure in mainstream SA Music industry.
