Written and performed by Alan Committie with Direction by  Christopher Weare, AVALAUGHTA will be on stage at Pieter Toerien’s Montecasino Theatre from 20 March until 12 April 2026.

Committie is back at Montecasino with some all-new routines and laughs to help us through this Easter period.

This all-new solo show features his usual witty wordplay, fast-paced japes and jibes, madcap physical hi-jinx and a comic look at events and madnesses from 2025. Nothing is sacred… Topics include: passport photo madness, the top and tail of weddings and funerals,  audiobooks gone wrong, musical theatre escapes, Italian bus journeys, password pressures and more.

PLUS, Committie recreates the 12 best minutes of the 1997 hit movie TITANIC to end the show! Of course, no matter how extraterrestrial it all feels, there is always room for a flipchart mindmap!

Committie is delighted to be returning to Joburg, his second home, to bring some much-needed relief to the stresses of life “Right now, we need to be gathering in groups of giggles, guffaws and belly laughs. It’s the perfect way to remind us of our humanity and connection.”

In space, nobody can hear you scream (with laughter), but at Montecasin,o you are welcome to laugh as loud as possible.

AV-A-LAUGH-TA will be on stage at Pieter Toerien’s Montecasino Theatre from 20 March to 12 April.

Performances are on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 19h30, Saturdays at 16h00 & 19h30, and Sundays at 15h00 & 18h00.

Holiday mayhem is the order of the day in the new contemporary family comedy, Kampterrein. The Fouchés, an Afrikaans family, arrive at the ATKV Buffelspoort resort for the holidays, only to find that their regular caravan spot has been taken over by the Khumalos. Much hilarity ensues as the two families engage in madcap tit-for-tat exchanges and shenanigans.

Meanwhile, the resort manager Oom Gert and his dopey assistant are doing everything they can to prepare the resort for a surprise visit by an anonymous inspector from the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa who will determine whether to award the venue an additional star, or not. It’s Gert’s lifelong dream to achieve the accolade, and this is his last chance before he retires.

Nothing goes according to plan and mayhem ensues. Questions start to arise about the interest in a beauty salon that offers far more than manis and pedis.  There’s an old lady on holiday with her dog which she struggles to hide as no pets are allowed, a handyman who can’t fix a thing, and a couple of local celebrities who think they can get away with not being recognised – all set against the backdrop of the beautiful and peaceful natural environment of the resort. The cards seem stacked against poor Oom Gert getting his long sought-after star.

The tranquillity is most profoundly disturbed by the ongoing clashes between the Fouchés and the Khumalos. Will they be able to set aside their cultural differences and actually enjoy their escape from the rigours of city life?

The film is directed Luhann Jansen whose previous projects include the acclaimed series Sterlopers 1 and 2 for Kyknet. It is produced by Marcus Muller and Morne Lane of Incense Productions, and the executive producers are Joost Smuts, Johan Mehmeyer and Lizelle Demos.

The cast features a host of familiar names, including Louw Venter (co-creator of the cult comedy TV series The Most Amazing Show), Juanita de Villiers Velts (Somer Son, 2015), Josias Moleele (Crazy Games, Zero Tolerance, 50/50) and Zenande Mfenyana (Generations), Jurgen Hellberg (Binnelanders), Edrien Erasmus (Vir die Voëls, 2016), Reine Swart (Die Pro, 2015), Kaz McFadden (7de Laan), Ruan Wessels (Agent 2000: Die Laksman, 2014), Johan Botha (Arende, Vyfster, 7de Laan), Lindie Stander (Binneland), Therese Benadie (Home Affairs), and Marlee van der Merwe (Sterlopers),.

Kampterrein: Die Movie releases nationwide on 24 March 2017. It is distributed in South Africa by Indigenous Film Distribution.

There’s also a mobile app for the film, which gives fans instant access to everything they need to know about the film and cast, has its own music radio, and allows them to book a holiday at the beautiful ATKV Buffelspoort resort where the film was set.
