kykNET is proud to announce the return of acclaimed actor Chumani Pan to the channel, as he joins the cast of Diepe Waters in the intriguing role of Siseko Bhonga. Viewers will fondly remember him from his unforgettable performance as Lux in the kykNET drama Projek Dina. This marks his highly anticipated return to kykNET — and he’s bringing royal energy with him.

Siseko Bhonga is no ordinary newcomer. He is the son of King Mzukisi Bhonga — a Xhosa prince raised in tradition but shaped by the modern world. Tall, handsome, and charismatic, Siseko returns home from the city with a cosmopolitan edge and a deep inner conflict. Though confident, intelligent, and empathetic, Siseko is reluctant to embrace the destiny his royal blood demands. As he grapples with the expectations of his heritage and the life he truly wants, his journey promises to stir hearts, raise questions, and possibly change the future of the Bhonga legacy forever.

Chumani shares his excitement about the role:

“I was ecstatic when I got the part. I haven’t worked on kykNET in a while, and I really missed the channel and its viewers. I’ve never played a prince before, so this role felt fresh and special to me. Siseko is such a respectful and humble man — he’s someone with strong values and a deep heart. It’s an honour to step into his shoes.”

Describing his character in three words, he says Siseko is “caring, loving, and sweet.” He also shares how his preparation for the role included research into royal duties and protocol, especially within the Xhosa monarchy — a world he already has some familiarity with.

But beyond tradition and duty, Siseko also brings a light-hearted charm to the screen.

“He’s got a comedic side too,” says Chumani. “It was fun to explore that, especially because I don’t usually get to play roles that allow me to be funny.”

As for what audiences can expect from Siseko’s storyline?

“Viewers might get frustrated with his journey at times, but I hope they stick with him. What matters is the journey — and they’re going to enjoy going on it with him.”

He also praised the Diepe Waters cast and crew, calling them “a truly talented and friendly bunch,” and gave a special nod to actress Tracey-Lee Oliver (Pam), saying they hit it off from their very first screen test.

Ultimately, Chumani hopes viewers walk away with a message of love and destiny:

“Siseko’s story reminds us that love can find you when you least expect it — in the most surprising places and moments.”

Diepe Waters airs on kykNET (DStv channel 144) Mondays to Thursdays at 18:30 and is also available on DStv Stream. Don’t miss Chumani Pan’s debut as Siseko Bhonga—a prince torn between tradition and desire, heart and heritage.

M-Net has fantastic news for dating show fanatics and the country’s obsessed #BachelorNation. After the channel’s two massively successful seasons of The Bachelor South Africa, a leading lady will now take centre stage.

The local version of the global franchise spin-off series, The Bachelorette South Africa, is already in pre-production and the identity of the country’s “rose like no other” will be revealed later this week.

“Choosing our first Bachelorette was a daunting task,” says M-Net’s Head of Publicity, Lani Lombard. “Even though it’s not a hard-and-fast rule, it is customary for the spin-off programme to pick a lady from previous Bachelor seasons.

“In this regard, we’re spoilt for choice. Both seasons featured many stunning ladies who could easily step into this coveted role and we know how fans fervently rooted for their favourites on social media. Behind the scenes, we were also contacted by other potential Bachelorettes with strong credentials, but who did not appear on the show,”.

While South Africa is waiting for M-Net and production company Rapid Blue to reveal its first Bachelorette, single guys should get ready to put their names forward if they wish to become part of the love journey with this vivacious woman. Entries for the show will open immediately after her name is disclosed.

Since 2003, when the first US season of The Bachelorette was launched, the popular gender-reversed spin-off of The Bachelor has been produced in numerous countries, including Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Finland and India. The recent first season in New Zealand also had the tongues wagging. Instead of having one Bachelorette, the Kiwis picked two!

M-Net is planning to have The Bachelorette Season 1 on its schedule early next year, with filming taking place as soon as possible in 2020.

Fairy-tale ending for The Bachelor SA Season 2 as Marc chooses Marisia.

In a special season finale of M-Net’s popular reality dating series The Bachelor SA, Bachelor Marc Buckner handed the final rose and beautiful Jack Friedman ring to shy speech therapist Marisia van Wyk as a symbol of his love and commitment. The dreamy fairy-tale moment took place behind a spectacular African sunset, at the five-star luxury game reserve, Kapama.

During the final Rose Ceremony, Marc had the tough choice of choosing between his final two ladies, Bridget and Marisia. In an interview with Jason, Marc mentioned that he will be basing his final decision on whether he can see himself growing and having a family with the chosen one. Unfortunately for 31-year-old travel agent Bridget, her love journey with Marc had come to an end. During the intense emotional break-up, Marc reminisced on their journey together and why he fell in love with her before breaking the devastating news, “But, our journey does end here,” he said. Bridget was at a loss for words and held back the tears as she thanked Marc and wished him and Marisia well.

As Marisia arrived – ambivalent of what was about to happen – Marc knew that he made the right decision. Marc looked into her eyes and confessed his love for her, “Marisia, you know the first thing I noticed is how beautiful you are. And then, you made it so difficult to get to know you, because you ran away from me. And then we went on our dates together, and every second I spent with you I wanted to spend more time with you, and that date when you came off the horse, it triggered something in me and I realised how much I care for you. I think we make a great couple. And, I don’t want this journey to end with you,”. He reached for his pocket and pulled out a gorgeous custom-designed pear-shaped one-carat diamond ring from Jack Friedman and said “I really am falling for you, and I want to ask if you will accept this as a symbol of a relationship that I think is so amazing and I would like it to keep going forward,” to which an emotional Marisia responded, “I will”. A romantic kiss followed and her confession of love “Okay, so, uhm wow, I don’t have words. I think I came onto this journey, and uhm yoh it’s been tough. But if anything, I’ve really fallen for you. And, I don’t know, there’s just something with you that I have never felt with anyone before, which is good for me. And I know there is this age gap, but it doesn’t really mean anything to me because I think my feelings for you mean so much more. So, I just want to focus on that and focus on us and then hopefully grow together,” and emotional Marisia said before they romanced into the sunset.

The fairy-tale continues for the loveable couple, who have been spending lockdown together, “We both thought it would be a great idea to move in together during lockdown. Because you know, when you’re not seeing each other and it’s the beginning of a relationship, it’s hard to build that trust and to have that trust going without knowing that that person’s there. Because you can imagine, any relationship, in the beginning, you spend as much time together as possible,”. Viewers also got a sneak peek into their lives, as Marc and Marisia shared special video moments of their daily routine and what they have been up to since their dreamy moment in Kapama.

The Bachelor SA Season 2 was screened every Thursday at 19:00 on M-Net Channel 101. DStv Premium viewers can also catch all the romance on Catch Up or stream the episodes live via their mobile devices on DStv Now.

The Bachelor SA season 2 was produced by Rapid Blue and proudly sponsored by Lottostar.

To compliment this local line-up BBC has also planned a vast array of world class shows over the next six months, featuring stars such as Tom Hardy, RuPaul, Reggie Yates, Helen McCrory, Oti Mabuse and Jamie Oliver to name a few.

Highlights include:

Dinner Date follows one person who is given the chance to find true love over three meals, each cooked by a blind date in their own home. In each episode a participant will choose three menus from five put together by prospective partners. They then go on three dates with the “chefs”, who cook them a meal in their own homes. After the three dates, all the chefs prepare for a night out at a swanky restaurant, but the participant can only choose one to go with – leaving the other two with a night in alone and a takeaway.

Cameras, Lights, African Production on Netflix, ACTION!

Netflix, the world’s leading internet entertainment service, has started production on its first original African series, Queen Sono, an action-packed spy thriller produced by Johannesburg-based Diprente.

Pearl Thusi is to star in the title role as an unconventional spy working for an undercover South African agency devoted to protecting the people of Africa.

The series will include an all-local cast including Vuyo Dabula playing Shandu, an ex-spy who has taken a different path. Sechaba Morojele will be seen as Dr Sid, director of the SOG, with Chi Mhende, Loyiso Madinga, and Rob Van Vuuren, playing agents on his team. Kate Liquorish’s character will be Ekaterina, heiress of an oligarch family with ulterior motives. Khathu Ramabulana will play Queen’s childhood friend, William, now in a relationship with Enhle Maphumulo’s Nova. Mazet, played by Abigail Kubekha, is Queen’s beloved Gogo, who has always supported Queen no matter the trouble she gets herself into.

Rounding out the talented supporting cast are Connie Chiume, Otto Nobela and James Ngcobo.

The six-part series is being produced by Diprente, the Johannesburg-based production company behind Catching Feelings and International Emmy nominated Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola. Showrunner and Director Kagiso Lediga, who was singlehandedly named as one of Fast Company’s Most Creative People 2019, will be joined by Director Tebogo Malope with both directing three episodes each. Impressively enough, is that Malope is in his own right an award-winning director with accolades from Cannes Lions and SAFTA awards under his belt. The team will be led by Executive Producer Tamsin Andersson.

So get your Netflix subscription, and your cuddle-buddy ready, because next year, Netflix and Chill will become Locally Lekker.

The series is expected to launch globally in 2020.

Alles Malan

Begin Dinsdag 9 Julie 20:00.

Kanaal: kykNET

Lui maar op, Belinda

Begin Maandag 8 Julie 20:00.

Space and 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landings.

Welcome to the greatest story that’s never been told. In a new, ground breaking series Professor Brian Cox is back to tell the story of the planets as never before. The Planets will bring these worlds vividly to life with Academy Award winning VFX Company Lola Post. This never seen before translation of our solar system, can be seen on BBC Earth, DStv channel 194, From Sunday 23rd June at 18:00.

This is drama on a planetary scale, with characters and plot twists newly revealed. We’ll meet the tragic Mars – once a vibrant water world yet destined by a twist of fate to become the barren, cold desert world we see today. Or the tyrannical Jupiter, which the latest science suggests, wandered through the early solar system using its massive size to create havoc and destruction that could have destroyed the Earth. All the way out to lonely, mysterious Neptune, the last major planet in the cold remote reaches of the solar system. But that is far from the end, because all the evidence points to the fact that we do not know our planets as well as we thought we did. This is an epic story that is still being written and has only just begun.

Episode 1: MARS – A Traveller’s Guide; Sunday 30th June at 19:00.

We now have the most detailed surveys of the Red Planet ever created. Using jaw-dropping imagery from orbit and on the surface, this insightful documentary creates the definitive traveller’s guide to Mars. It reveals our nearest neighbour, not as a dead planet, but as a world of constant change and astonishing variety. Up close, monumental graphic sequences show the wonders of Mars as never before. Showcasing the marvels of a remarkable planet, this is the most comprehensive tour of Mars you can take.

Episode 2: Jupiter Revealed; Sunday 23rd June at 19:00.

Jupiter is a behemoth of a planet. All our solar system’s planets, asteroids and comets would fit inside it. But we’ve known surprisingly little else about our greatest gas giant, until now. Five years after its launch, NASA’s spacecraft Juno has entered Jupiter’s orbit and is making remarkable discoveries. This film follows Juno’s mission and finally uncovers some of the planet’s hidden secrets.

Episode 3: Goodbye Cassini – Hello Saturn; Sunday 7th July at 19:00.

On 15 September 2017, the Cassini spacecraft ended its remarkable 13-year tour of Saturn by plunging into the gas giant’s atmosphere and burning up. Goodbye Cassini – Hello Saturn follows the team behind Nasa’s most successful spacecraft as they prepare for its dramatic descent. Take an incredible journey past Saturn’s rings and the small moons orbiting within them. This is the first view from inside the rings, and the closest ever look at Saturn’s swirling cloud tops. It’s also the first accurate measurement of Saturn’s magnetic field, which promises to unlock more mysteries – not just about Saturn, but the entire solar system.

Episode 4: 8 Days to the Moon and Back; Saturday 20th July at 18:00.

8 days, 3 hours, 18 minutes, 35 seconds. That’s the total duration of the Apollo 11 moon mission. But we only saw a fraction of what happened. Using cutting-edge special effects and previously classified cockpit audio, 8 Days recreates the crucial scenes that were never filmed. The first sight of the moon. The dramatic touchdown. The nail-biting journey home. Original archive footage is seamlessly blended with newly shot film to create a new view of history. This is the untold story of the most important space mission ever flown. And it’s a giant leap for documentary storytelling.

Episode 5: Stargazing: Live; Saturday 20th July at 20:00.

In this live primetime television event, each episode is themed and reveals the secrets of space. Combining revelatory VTs and live material from telescopes, it brings the wonders of the night sky into the nation’s living rooms. Presented by a leading scientist Professor Brian Cox, Stargazing: Live has a mix of expertise and amateur enthusiasm. Packed with amazing sights and incredible facts, Stargazing Live brings you the very latest science of our universe.

Episode 6: Moon Landing: Live (Double Bill); Saturday 21st July at 19:00.

July 1969. America made history and sent the first humans to the moon. Two immersive documentaries retell this extraordinary moment in history and allow viewers to experience the moon landing, live in their living rooms. The first part relives the drama of the launch, while the second part focuses on the nail-biting landing. Moon Landing also reveals how close the mission came to failing: Neil Armstrong was forced to take over manual control, and landed with just 30 seconds of fuel to spare. NASA footage and international broadcasts from the time bring history bursting back into life. Step back in time, and witness the most famous leap forward for mankind.
