Stripped and raw. Where do dreams begin and where do they end? What do you do when the colours of your life’s coat start to change? Since Phantom of the Opera, there has been a perception that André Schwartz and Andrew Lloyd Webber are friends. The storyline is a narrative that exploits this interaction through music and conversation. In Any Dream Will Do – My Pad met Webber, Schwartz explores his relationship with everything that is Andrew Lloyd Webber — a relationship that began when he was first introduced to Andrew’s work at the age of 12, when he saw Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Get your tickets now for Any Dream Will Do – My Pad met Webber at the Theatre of Marcellus at Emperors Palace on Sunday, 15 March at three o’clock at www.LTickets.co.za, (011) 815-3000 or at lefra.com. The production is presented with the kind cooperation of Ambassador Execudrive, BluBlood, Britz Couriers & Removals, Emperors Palace, Feeste.net, Hollywood Costumes, LTickets, Lift Airlines, Mannah Guesthouse and Conference Centre, Mobilis Auto, RSG and Van Loveren wines.

André Schwartz’s celebrated and multifaceted career spans music, theatre, television, and the business world. Born and raised in Johannesburg, he made his television debut at fourteen and was classically trained as both a singer and pianist, a foundation that has supported his multifaceted career in popular Afrikaans music, musical theatre and broadcast media. Over several decades, Schwartz has released numerous albums – many of which have achieved gold status – with beloved hits such as ‘Ek wil jou nooit weer sien’, ‘Lief vir alles hier’ and ‘Ritme deur die nag’, and has worked with icons such as Yvonne Chaka Chaka, among others.

As a leading stage artist, he has starred in major musical productions, including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Pirates of Penzance and of course The Phantom of the Opera, to critical acclaim. Andrew Lloyd Webber himself praised his portrayal of the Phantom. In addition to music and theatre, he has appeared on television (including series such as Sterlopers and 7de Laan), hosted numerous lifestyle and reality shows. His 2019 album Die Pad reflects his personal journey and growth as an artist, and he continues to inspire audiences with his passion, resilience and creative vision.

Through iconic songs such as Any Dream Will Do, You Must Love Me, Music of the Night, Memory and Pie Jesu, he weaves this music with his own life story in Any Dream Will Do – My Pad met Webber. The show takes the audience on an honest, emotional journey full of humour, hope and difficult truths — without pomp or grandeur. The songs are presented simply and openly, exactly like the story being told. Sometimes it is light and funny, sometimes raw and painful, but always sincere. This is not a nostalgic music concert, but a personal theatrical experience that draws people closer and keeps them talking long after the last note.

André is accompanied by leading music director, maestro Bryan Schimmel, which is an experience in itself. Come enjoy the immortal music of Andrew Lloyd Webber. Get your tickets now for Any Dream Will Do – My Pad met Webber at the Theatre of Marcellus at Emperors Palace on Sunday, 15 March at three o’clock at LTickets.co.za.

Queen of the Kitchen, Now on Stage!

Where do you go when you’re trying to get away from your monster mother-in-law? If you’re Annalakshmi, then it’s a different country and a different continent altogether!

Annalakshmi’s African Adventure is a hilarious musical comedy about being an Indian National taking refuge in South Africa. This one-woman-show will take place for the first time on a Joburg stage on the 24th of March at the Theatre of Marcellus, Emperors Palace.

Using singing in a variety of Indian vernacular, as well as old and contemporary English music, Annalakshmi tackles family, social, economic and political issues. She loves telling stories and giving candid commentary of her Indian take on things and her parodies are witty, funny and they hit home.

Anasia Govender – better known as her stage character, Annalakshmi – is a 42-year-old mother of 3 and an entrepreneur. She is also the chef and owner of Chilli Kadhai Restaurant in Durban. In fact, this was where it all started when her video advertising the restaurant went viral after she gave Ed Sheeran’s song, Thinking Out Loud, her own twist.

One of her comedy career highlights was being a semi-finalist on SA’s Got Talent 2017. She has shared the stage with some of South Africa’s best comedians including Carvin Goldstone, Joey Rasdien and Marc Lottering, to name a few. Kamz Govender, an exciting new up-and-coming comic, will be the opening act. His clean, hilariously well-thought out one-liners, has him standing out on stage.

Annalakshmi’s African Adventure is entertainment for the whole family. Tickets are available from R120 per person. Annalakshmi’s Adventures is poudly brought to you in association with Blu Blood.

The Smurfs are busy preparing for the much-anticipated annual Spring Parade but if Gargamel has his way, there won’t be a parade at all! While the Smurfs are singing and dancing with excitement, the wicked Gargamel comes up with a plan to trick Mother Nature and bring an end to the festivities.

THE SMURFS LIVE ON STAGE is a magical adventure that will see the Smurfs battle Gargamel and save Mother Nature, showing the power of family and true team spirit. Fans alike can get ready to cheer the Smurfs as they come to life on the grand stage with life-size mushroom-shaped forest houses, vibrant backdrops and wonderful sing-along music.

Created in 1958 by Pierre Culliford (fondly known as Peyo), the Smurfs have come to be one of the most loved cartoon characters around the world, especially after the launch of the animated cartoon series in 1980. Spanning over three decades, the series was produced by Hanna Barbera and with 272 episodes (dubbed into 40 languages) under its belt, it has enjoyed top ratings in more than 100 countries. Millions of Smurfs DVDs continue to be sold worldwide and recently a new milestone was achieved with the creation and release of the Smurfs 3D movies – the first in 2011, second in 2013 and most recently, the release of the 3D animated adventure-comedy, The Lost Village.

Which Smurf will be chosen as the leader of this year’s parade? Will the Smurfs be able to save themselves? Will they save Mother Nature? Will they stop Gargamel from turning off Spring forever?

Following on the huge success of their shows in 2010 and 2011, this fun, educational and interactive 60-minute show is back by popular demand and features some of Beautiful Creatures’ most loved characters.

The musical tells the story of the shy and quiet Imvubu the Happiest Hippo and how he got to be so happy. We join him on his journey of self-discovery as he befriends Mafutha the Elephant, learns dance steps from Tallulah the Tortoise and finds his “inner roar” with the help of Lucas the Lazy Lion.

This popular South African children’s brand was created in 2004 by Alan Glass, Ed Jordan and Paul Choritz.

The last five years has seen them releasing seven albums which have achieved multi-platinum and gold album sales in South Africa, as well as four children’s books and a series of educational toys. They have also received two SAMA nominations and received the Naledi Award for Best Children’s Production in 2010.

“In a world where parents and children have limited quality time, Beautiful Creature’s mission is to bring families together offering a uniquely South African brand with an educational and positive message,” adds Alan Glass.

The production is directed by esteemed director and actress, Gina Shmukler.

Tickets cost R85 and are available through Computicket

The production tells the story of an author who toys with the idea of writing a book about the life of a reclusive tailor. MANNEQUIN is the story told by his tailor. A tale of surprise, fear, cruelty, humour, truth and fantasy. The show will not only feature original music, but also Nataniël’s surprise versions of a few of the world’s best known songs from the late sixties and the eighties.

Nataniël will share the stage with long-time fellow musicians Charl du Plessis (keyboards), Juan Oosthuizen (guitars), Werner Spies (bass), Hugo Radyn (drums) and favourite singers Nicolaas Swart and Dihan Slabbert. This show, structured around stories told in both English and Afrikaans, is about visual beauty and tailoring, and features an astounding collection of new costumes by the multi award-winning designer, Floris Louw.

MANNEQUINN, set to captivate audiences with its masterful blend of music, storytelling and breathtaking costumes, will be performed from Wednesdays to Saturdays at 20h00, and on Sunday afternoons at 15h00. Tickets start from R160 per person and can be booked through the Emperors Palace Box Office on 011 928 1297/1213, or by visiting www.emperorspalace.com or Computicket. Winners Circle members qualify for discount.

There is an age restriction of No Under 15’s and the show is 90 minutes in duration with no interval.

Emperors Palace is a Peermont resort.
