Johannesburg, 18 June 2025: The American crime-drama thriller 61st Street returns for an exhilarating second season on Universal TV (DStv 117). The eight-part series premieres on 19 June 2025, with new episodes airing every Thursday at 8pm (CAT) until 1 August.
61st Street tells the story of Moses Johnson, a promising Black high school athlete, who gets swept up in the Chicago criminal justice system. He is arrested as a supposed gang member after an officer dies during a drug bust gone wrong. Franklin Roberts, who has promised his wife that he will retire as a public defender, takes on Johnson’s case because he recognises its potential to upend the entire Chicago judicial system, challenging the institutional racism and endemic corruption at its heart.

Alongside Emmy®-winners Courtney B. Vance and Aunjanue Ellis, the series also stars Mark O’Brien, Holt McCallany, Tosin Cole, Andrene Ward-Hammond, Bentley Green and Jerod Haynes.

From AMC Studios, 61st Street is executive produced by BAFTA-winner Peter Moffat (The Night Of, Your Honor), J. David Shanks (The Chi, Seven Seconds, Shots Fired), Outlier Society’s Michael B. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo (Just Mercy, David Makes Man), Alana Mayo (Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse, Just Mercy), Jeff Freilich (Lodge 49, Dispatches from Elsewhere) and Hilary Salmon (MotherFatherSon, The Night Of, London Spy).

Season 2 of 61st Street premieres on Universal TV on 19 June at 20.00, with new episodes airing every Thursday until the season finale on 1 August.
Universal TV is available on DStv Channel 117 across Africa.
