Cape Town, 14 October 2025: The popular annual Liberty Promenade Next Generation Musical Showcase is back, lighting up the mall’s food district on Saturday, 18 October 2025. Now in its 14th year, the much-loved event will bring together 16 schools from Mitchells Plain and the Cape Flats for an occasion filled with music, dance and purpose-led storytelling.

A Celebration of Imagination and Creativity
This year’s theme, Fairytales: Once Upon A Cape Flats Edition, invites youth to reimagine well-known animated stories through their own eyes, blending local culture and creativity with familiar tales. The task for each school is to create a stage music production that brings the theme to life, showing how their learners interpret and express it through their own creativity and storytelling. The stage is expected to come alive with performances of singing, dancing, rap, and musical acts, each one sharing a slice of life from the community’s youth and giving voice to the next generation of storytellers.
The participating primary, high, and special needs schools will be competing for their share of R60 000 in cash prizes. These funds will help schools improve their facilities and invest in much-needed educational resources. Local favourite Kurt Schoonraad will host the event, while judges Wendi Abrahams, Fuego, Heloise Mgcina, and Lloyd Jansen will have the difficult task of selecting this year’s winners.

Proudly Celebrating Local Talent
For Liberty Promenade, the showcase is about more than performances. It’s a celebration of pride, self-expression, and the incredible spirit of young people in the community. The annual showcase gives learners a stage to tell their stories, build confidence, and shine in front of their peers and families.
The 16 participating schools are Eastville Primary, West End Primary, Beacon Skool for LSEN, Caradale Primary, Spine Road High School, Jamaicaweg Primary School, Hillside Primary School, Eisleben Road Primary School, Alpine Primary School, Lentegeur School for LSEN, Imperial Primary School, Montagu Drive Primary School, Rocklands Secondary School, Cascade Primary School, Woodville Primary School, and Portland High School.
The event starts at 11 AM on 18 October, and while there is no cost to attend, people are advised to arrive early as seating is limited.
