A Glittering Double Bill from Joburg Ballet this Winter.
From the diamond brilliance of classical ballet to the sweep and surge of contemporary dance, Joburg Ballet returns for its second 2018 season at Joburg Theatre with Fire and Ice, a glittering double bill, for ten performances from Friday 29 June to Sunday 8 July. The company offers a range of affordable tickets throughout the season, including half price on opening night, Early Bird booking at 30% off until 20 May and two budget-priced morning matinees with all seats just R100.
In the company’s continuing drive to make dance accessible to everyone, this season also sees the return of free seats for tertiary level students for all performances.
A dynamic double bill, Fire and Ice showcases the company’s range and expertise in two contrasting ballets, the classical Raymonda Act 3 and a world première by internationally acclaimed French-Algerian choreographer Redha.
Never previously performed in Johannesburg, Raymonda Act 3 will première in a staging by Brazilian producer Guivalde de Almeida. Drawn from a full-length 19th century ballet, with music by Russian composer Alexander Glazunov, Raymonda Act 3captures some of the finest classical choreography ever created in a single glittering act.
Audiences can go behind the scenes on the Fire and Ice creative process during one the company’s popular Open Days on Saturday, 9 June from 10:00 to 13:00 at Joburg Ballet’s studios in Braamfontein. The morning will include classes and rehearsals, plus introductions to Raymonda Act 3 and Redha’s new work by members of the creative team. Tickets are just R100 and can be booked directly via the company’s ticketing manager Edgar Moagi on 011-877 6898.
As part of its commitment to audience development, Joburg Ballet is offering free tickets throughout the Fire and Ice season to all tertiary level learners. Students can simply present a valid student card in person at Joburg Theatre box office before any performance to claim two free best-available tickets (subject to availability).
Booking for the season, which includes discounts for pensioners and groups, is in person at Joburg Theatre Box Office, tel. 0861 670 670, or via www.webtickets.co.za.
