What makes Jagveld different?
The highly anticipated new Afrikaans action/thriller JAGVELD (Afrikaans, with English subtitles) – written by the renowned master of the thriller genre, Deon Meyer – will come to life on the big screen at South African cinemas from 17 March 2017.
This exciting local cinema release hits the screen with impact – delivering suspenseful elements of the genre with the support of atmospheric cinematography, eerily quiet locations in the Karoo and a top-notch local cast in standout roles (which are a distinct departure from the characters they have played onscreen up to now).
JAGVELD takes the thriller genre to new heights, establishing a unique new entry in the South African movie scene.
Emma le Roux (Leandie du Randt) is on her way home to the family farm in the Great Karoo; pretty, soft little Emma, the pacifist primary school teacher. She has made the trip ‘n thousand times without incident, but not today…
Today she will cross paths with Bosman (Neels van Jaarsveld), Baz (Tim Theron), Jay (Bouwer Bosch), Boela (Edwin van der Walt), AJ (Danie Putter) and Piet (Luan Jacobs).
Bosman is the mastermind of the drug syndicate; a psychopath, he is savage and violent. Baz and Jay are his henchmen – murderers, monsters. AJ and Boela, spoiled brats looking for validation, are on board to make a quick buck in the criminal underworld. And then there’s Piet, the weakling, who is willing to do just about anything for his cousin Bosman.
Emma witnesses them committing a murder; and they see her seeing them. Now they’re hunting her down like an animal. But they don’t know who this girl is that they are hunting and nothing is going according to plan; everything is falling apart, and fast. At first they were driven by hate and revenge. Suddenly, it’s survival…
