After successfully winning The Voice South Africa on M-Net in May 2016, Richard Stirton this month released his first single, along with the music video. His Debut single, What tears me the Most already reached the Number 1 spot on the South African iTunes chart, since its release.
Richard has been on a rollercoaster ride since winning the competition, having already earned his first major accolade of an iTunes #1 with his rendition of Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘The Sound of Silence’ from the hit show.
Of this incredible journey Richard said, “These have been the most surreal last few months and I cannot believe I finally have the opportunity to start releasing original music. I am feeling very blessed and I hope that everybody enjoys the music I have to share.”
He recently recorded his first original single, What Tears Me The Most, over a number of days in Johannesburg in early June. This heart-warming single was penned by Brit Awarding winning artist James Bay and is perfectly suited to Richard’s organic, authentic voice and magnetic sincerity.
Talking of his single, Richard says “I hope that people are able to connect with the song on a number of levels, but especially a lyrical connection, because at the end of the day music is all about the message.”
The success of the single was followed up by Richard’s first music video. “I am so excited to release the music video for my first single. It’s all happened very fast and has been an amazing experience. It’s been so surreal doing the things that I’ve always dreamed of,” says Richard.
The video was filmed over a number of hours in studio and shows Richard at his sincere and honest best. Talking about the concept for the video Richard says, “I wanted it to be organic, authentic and real so that it corresponds with the type of music I want to make. I hope that the viewers enjoy it and feel more connected to the entire process.”
Richard has been hard at work since winning The Voice SA in late May, rushing between photo shoots, studio time, video shoots and extensive gigging. He is currently between the road and studio working on material for his debut album set for release in early August.
