STAR of SA Musical Theatre, Jonathan Roxmouth, will be singing your favourite songs from the musicals and entertains with his own personal backstage stories and anecdotes in STAGE BY STAGE.
The world of Musical Theatre has long been a source of great tunes, catchy lyrics and iconic characters. From the twinkling lights of Broadway to the hallowed streets of London’s West End, there are many songs to be sung and stories to be told. In Stage By Stage, Jonathan adds his own backstage stories and personal anecdotes that will have you chuckling, and creates a warm, relaxed atmosphere in which to showcase “musical highlights such as the raucous ‘Broadway Baby’; the swinging ‘Luck Be A Lady Tonight’; the groovin’ ‘Beauty School Dropout’ and a gutsy Gaston singing ‘Me’. Love songs abound, sung with the right degree of tenderness without falling into sentimentality. There’s the beautiful ’I Have Dreamed’ from the King and I; the lyrical ’If I Loved You from Carousel and a perfectly rendered ‘This is the Moment’ from Jekyll and Hyde. Then the mood is broken with such lively niceties as ‘Have Some Madeira, M’Dear!’, complete with eloquent eyebrows, nifty voice changes and a lively sense of humour, and a totally amazing ‘Something’s Coming’ from West Side Story, in which he manages all the swells and tricky sustained notes.” And of course, from Les Misérables there is ‘Bring Him Home’ and ‘Music of the Night’ from The Phantom of The Opera.
If we can’t see every Broadway and West End musical on stage in South Africa, at least we have Jonathan Roxmouth, who gives us a magical glimpse into those glorious productions … and does them (very) proud! “The show flies by and leaves you wanting more. Jonathan is one smart entertainer and this is one great show.” GoingPlacesSA.co.za
“Enormously talented Roxmouth is blessed with a beautiful voice. It is strong, rich and multi-faceted. He has a remarkable range and can sing anything from falsetto to a honeyed baritone. He is a truly gifted singer and a joy to listen to. More than once, the audience sat transfixed by his artistry” Artsmart
