Pieter Toerien presents The London Shakespeare Group in celebration of a life’s work and a 400-year legacy.

400 years after his death, Shakespeare is performed more and more and is loved throughout the world. He is without doubt Britain’s greatest export. Sweet Mr Shakespeare examines the reactions to him over the centuries and enacts great passages from his comedies, tragedies and histories.

Honouring The Bard are …

Delena Kidd, who last appeared at Theatre on the Bay in the 2012 production of Sir Ronald Harwood’s play Quartet and in 2014 in Richard Everett’s Entertaining Angels.

Her daughter, Emily Raymond (who is married to fellow English actor, Ben Miles) joins her on stage in South Africa for the 2nd time.

Rounding out the cast is British stage, radio – and video game! – actor, Andrew Wincott

Stage and television actor, Frank Barrie, who had a world record of 12 consecutive standing ovations at the Brisbane Twelfth Night Theatre in 1982 for his self-penned Macready and who has most recently appeared in the BBC’s EastEnders.

Sweet Mr Shakespeare recounts stories of Shakespeare’s life and times and includes 7 scenes from his tragedies and comedies including The Taming of the Shrew, The Merry Wives of Windsor, As You Like It, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hamlet and Macbeth.

A fascinating mix of life and art; readings, anecdotes, yarns and performance.

Their performance will feature some of the following excerpts:

As you like it:  Soliloquy, Much ado. Section on Shylock, Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth night, Henry 5, Henry 4, Section on acting S: with reference to Hamlet, Macbeth and The Dream.
