Team Tropical Become The Second Team To Be Eliminated From Tropika Island Of Treasure

Tropika Island Of Treasure Curaçao continues to be one of the most exciting shows on television and this week, after another set of gruelling challenges, the second elimination of the season took place. After struggling with most of the challenges, singer and actress Simphiwe Ngema and her team mate Siya Mfenyana bid the competition farewell leaving four teams to battle it out for the shared R1 million grand prize.

The Smoooth Lounge

The first challenge this week pushed the teams harder than ever because, unlike previous challenges, this one required the teams to join together into two larger teams. This meant that they needed to work together with their rivals in order to secure points to add to their scoreboard. However, in a shocking twist, since there are five teams still in the competition and only place for two teams of four, one team had to sit out and automatically earn zero points in this challenge. In a schoolyard pick, leaderboard champions #TeamCoolRed (Nadia Jaftha and Trevor Lagerwey) picked #TeamPineapple (Ntando Duma and Siphosethu Colo) to join their team while #TeamPeach (Kay Sibiya and Caldine Wyngaard) picked #TeamMangoPeach (Siphesihle Vazi and Darren Solomon). This meant that #TeamTropical (Simphiwe Ngema and Siyasanga Mfenyana) forfeited their spot in the challenge.

In the challenge, the teams were required to work together to fill up four empty glasses with Tropika. The catch? One team member was connected to a harness which was attached to a rope holding up a weighted treasure chest. The other three contestants were required to hold up the weighted treasure chest to allow the pourer as much rope as possible to maneuver. Kay Sibiya proved his pouring skills were top-class making Team Peach and Team Mango Peach the winners of this challenge.

Tour de Flamingo

In the second challenge of the episode, the teams were tasked with inflating a flamingo. Each team used the inflatable flamingo to paddle to a jetty placed just off the beach, untie a bag filled with puzzle pieces and paddle back. Once the four bags had been retrieved, the teams were able to start on their puzzle. Naturally, the first to compete the challenge, would be the winner.

Team Cool Red managed to win yet another challenge earning them six points. Feeling the pressure, Team Peach opted to use the 30-second time-freeze advantage long-life charm they won last episode, during this challenge, which helped them place second. After struggling to put the puzzle together, Team Mango Peach came in third while Team Pineapple placed fourth. Team Tropical continued their losing streak coming in last.

Elimination Challenge

Team Tropical found themselves at the bottom of the leader board and went head-to-head with Team Pineapple in a game of amazeballs. In the challenge, the teams needed to work together to maneuver three pool balls through the maze and land them each in their own landing spot. It was a tight challenge but Team Pineapple ultimately landed all three of their balls first sending Team Tropical packing as the second team to be eliminated from the game.

Now, Simphiwe Ngema and Siya Mfenyana open up about their Tropika Island of Treasure experience after their elimination from the show:

Q: Talk to us a little bit about your experience on Tropika Island of Treasure this season.
Simphiwe:
Nothing about this experience was unfortunate. For us, we did our best, we had a great experience and we did everything we could to get here. I am proud of myself and I am proud of Siya for everything we accomplished. I tried a lot of things that I never thought I would do in my life and I have seen that I am, in fact, a strong person. I had so much fun on the show.

Q: What advice do you wish you got before the show about the challenges and tasks you were faced with?
Siya:
Don’t overthink things; sometimes the answers are not rocket science; and take your vitamins – you’re going to need a whole lot of energy for the challenges!

Curaçao looks like a beautiful island. What was the highlight of your experience there?
Siya:
The crystal-clear beaches. It’s what is on my vision board. I didn’t know how or for what reason, but I knew I had to go to a place with a beautiful beach – and it happened!

Q: What was the biggest highlight about your time on Tropika Island of Treasure?
Simphiwe: I think my highlight was spending time with fellow celebs and contestants on the eve of our elimination. There was a buffet style dinner by the beach with live performances from myself, Caldine and Bouwer. We had tons of fun that evening.

Q: Why should people continue to watch Tropika Island of Treasure for the remainder of the season?
Siya: The great group of people who are all unique and bring something different to the show. No two episodes will be the same and the rest of the season is set to be filled with loads more excitement and some interesting twists…
