Musical Chairs is a dynamic and thought-provoking production blending street dance styles such as Amapiano, Hip Hop, House, and Campbellocking with classical music, physical theatre, and social commentary. This highly anticipated show returns to Theatre on the Square from 22nd October to 8th November 2025.
Written and choreographed by Genesis Shirindza of The Locksmiths Collective, Musical Chairs is a bold exploration of how we, as a society, interact with social media and navigate its overwhelming power. It reimagines the familiar childhood game as a powerful testament of intimacy, understanding, and shared rhythm. The play perfectly blends entertainment that caters to the entire family and provokes thought for adults.
This innovative production invites audiences into an immersive experience where movement tells the story, layered with intentional lighting and a soundtrack blending classical compositions with electrifying street dance beats. Musical Chairs is a truly interactive theatrical experience.

The brainchild of The Locksmiths Collective, a multi-disciplinary theatre-making trio comprised of Sipho Didiza, Genesis Shirindza and newly added Hungani Ndlovu. Musical Chairs features the direction of Sipho Didiza as the dance director and Hungani Ndlovu as the performance director. Produced by Daphne Kuhn, Aurelie Stratton and Genesis Shirindza, the production boasts a cast of eight versatile performers who bring depth, energy, and emotion to the stage.
