Johannesburg, 26 March 2026: Bedford Centre in Johannesburg will mark a special milestone this Easter, with a series of family-friendly celebrations taking place from Saturday, 28 March to Saturday, 4 April. This special celebration honours 100 years since Bedfordview was officially named, inviting the community to come together in a way that feels thoughtful, easy and rooted in shared history.
A Birthday Celebration Shaped for Families
Set on the upper level opposite Spur, Bedford will be unveiling a Birthday Café, designed as a vibrant, interactive space for children and families to spend time together, daily from 10 AM to 5 PM. The celebrations will begin with the Cupcake Club, where young visitors will be able to decorate their own cupcakes alongside members of the South African Cake Decorators Guild from Alberton. There will be a sense of occasion throughout, with guests invited to enjoy a slice of birthday cake as part of the opening moment.
Throughout the week, the space will offer simple, hands-on activities that encourage creativity and play. Children will be able to take part in a pizza-making experience, building their own savoury creations, or spend time at the egg craft corner, turning chocolate eggs into imaginative fondant characters. The vibe will lean into the rhythm of the school holiday, with families free to move through the space at their own pace.
A Moment That Gives Back
Activities cost R20 per child (which includes making a pizza and decorating an egg), with proceeds supporting Better Bedfordview and its ongoing work within the local community.
Bedford has collaborated with Pizza Perfect, Pick n Pay and the South African Cake Decorators Guild of Alberton to bring the activation to life, adding extra fun to the experience.
“We’ve been part of our shoppers’ stories for many years, and that’s something we truly value,” says Linda Linnow, Centre Manager at Bedford Centre. “Celebrating 100 years of Bedfordview feels incredibly meaningful, and we can’t wait to welcome families in to share this special moment with us.”
From its beginnings as farmland to the well-connected suburb it is today, Bedfordview’s story continues to unfold.
