Cape Town, 27 February 2026: South African football icon Benni McCarthy will bring his journey from the Cape Flats to Champions League glory to life at Cavendish Square with the launch of his biography, BENNI, co-written with sports journalist Mark Gleeson, at an in-person book launch next week. Fans will have the opportunity to hear directly from McCarthy, ask questions, and get copies of the book signed at the event hosted in the centre court by Exclusive Books.
From Hanover Park to the World Stage
BENNI traces McCarthy’s path from his challenging upbringing in Hanover Park to becoming South Africa’s national team all-time top scorer and winning the UEFA Champions League with Porto. The biography details his playing career across Europe in the Netherlands, Spain and England, as well as his transition into coaching, including his current role as manager of the Kenya national football team. McCarthy shares personal insights into his challenges, triumphs, and the lessons learned along the way.
“Growing up in Hanover Park, you learn to be tough, and you learn to fight for your dreams. People have had a lot to say about me throughout my career; this is my story from my own perspective. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved, and I’m looking forward to sharing this book with the world,” said McCarthy.
