Johannesburg – Friday, 14 March 2025 – Special Olympics South Africa (SOSA) has officially written its name in the annals of sporting history. At the recently concluded 2025 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin, Italy, Team South Africa proved that neither borders nor boundaries can confine human spirit and excellence.
Inspired by Julius Caesar’s famed declaration “Veni, Vidi, Vici,” these words now belong to our Special Olympics athletes, whose tenacity and determination translated into an unforgettable medal haul on the world stage.
A Medal Haul That Defies Limits
With over 70 nations competing, South Africa’s six-athlete delegation didn’t merely participate — they conquered. Every member of the team ascended the podium, underscoring a compelling message about inclusivity, capability, and heart.

Additional support came from an array of partners, including the Northwest Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, National Lotteries Commission, Nike South Africa, Converse South Africa, Lahers Silkscreen, Tutone Communications, and Gift of the Givers.
A Send-Off Fit For Champions
The team’s send-off was equally momentous, graced by dignitaries and icons alike: His Excellency Mahash Saeed AlHameli, Siphiwe Tshabalala, Desiree Ellis, and many others, affirming the nation’s pride in its athletes.
An Open Invitation To Celebrate
As these champions return home on Monday, 17th March, at 9:30 am, South Africans are encouraged to gather at OR Tambo International Airport to welcome them back in true hero’s fashion.
In a world obsessed with limitation, Team South Africa just redefined what’s possible. Isn’t it time we reconsidered the boundaries we impose on talent, inclusion, and collective pride?
