Johannesburg, 30 June 2025: Kagiso Mall recently joined the national “Your Cancer Counts” campaign in partnership with “Living with Cancer SA”, with a powerful activation that encouraged the local community to pause, reflect and participate in a shared tribute to those affected by cancer.
Earlier this month, shoppers were invited to write the name of someone currently living with cancer, or a loved one lost to the disease, on a colourful ball and place it inside a ribbon-shaped installation. Over the course of the weekend, the ribbon slowly filled up with hundreds of names, becoming a vibrant symbol of memory, hope and solidarity.
Volunteers were present to guide visitors through the process and speak about the importance of awareness, early detection and support. Many shoppers also took the opportunity to register their own stories, or those of their loved ones, on South Africa’s first patient-led cancer registry, a growing national database that aims to strengthen cancer research and care in the country.
“It was moving to witness how deeply the people of Kagiso engaged with this initiative,” said Modibe Modiba, Centre Manager at Kagiso Mall. “Every name placed in the ribbon was a reminder that behind every diagnosis is a real story, a real family. We’re proud to have been part of something that brought people together for such a meaningful cause.”
