Cape Town, 20 July 2026: A pair of jeans tucked away at the back of a wardrobe could soon help change a young person’s future. That’s the thinking behind Denim for Good, a new community initiative at Cavendish Square that encourages shoppers to make the conscious choice to donate their pre-loved denim while supporting youth development, creativity and more sustainable fashion choices.
Running from now until 16 September, the campaign invites shoppers to drop off gently worn denim items at the collection point on the first floor opposite Lovisa, giving pre-loved denim a meaningful second life. For every denim item donated, Cavendish Square will make an in-kind contribution to the Amy Foundation, further supporting the organisation’s work in providing education, skills development and opportunities for young people. The Amy Foundation’s Youth Skills Development Programme equips unemployed young people with practical vocational, life and workplace skills, helping them prepare for employment, further study or entrepreneurship.

From Donation to Inspiration
The initiative also extends beyond donation. Selected denim items will be given to learners at the Peter Clarke Art Centre, who will transform them into original upcycled creations. These pieces will be showcased at Cavendish Square in September, celebrating the creativity of local young artists while highlighting the potential of fashion to reduce waste.
Any remaining donated denim will be given to the Amy Foundation, where women participating in the organisation’s skills development programmes will upcycle the fabric into handcrafted items such as sling bags and Shweshwe accessories. These creations will be sold or auctioned to generate further support for the initiative, before being showcased at Cavendish Square in September alongside an exhibition by students from the Peter Clarke Art Centre, celebrating creativity, sustainability and community impact.
“Caring for our community can take many forms, and Denim for Good is a simple way for shoppers to make a real contribution,” said Cavendish Square Management. “Whether it’s supporting youth development through the Amy Foundation, encouraging creative expression or helping reduce textile waste, every donation becomes part of a much bigger story.”
By giving pre-loved denim a new purpose, Cavendish Square hopes to inspire shoppers to think differently about clothing that is no longer worn and demonstrate how everyday choices can create lasting social impact.
