SANDTON, 28 October 2026: From professional athletes to busy corporate professionals, Sandton’s newest wellness destination is encouraging people to move beyond treating exhaustion and start prioritising recovery, performance and long-term wellbeing.
Bringing together a curated selection of wellness experiences, Sandton Longevity Lounge aims to make proactive self-care more accessible to professional athletes, corporate executives and individuals looking to maintain their energy and wellbeing in an increasingly demanding world.
With professional sportspeople and corporate professionals already among its clients, the lounge is also seeing growing interest from people experiencing fatigue and end-of-year burnout as 2026 draws to a close. For many, the familiar December holiday is approaching after months of demanding schedules, competing priorities and little opportunity to properly recharge.
Owned by Carwen Gomes, Sandton Longevity Lounge is built around a simple philosophy: longevity is not only about adding years to life, but also about improving the quality of those years.
“Healthy is the new beautiful,” says Gomes. “We all want to live longer, but we want to live better. We support the body and its natural processes, giving people the opportunity to prioritise their energy, recovery and overall wellbeing.”
A Personal Journey Inspires A Wellness Destination
The idea behind Sandton Longevity Lounge began approximately a decade ago when Gomes started searching for recovery solutions for her son, a competitive swimmer. Looking for ways to support his training and help prevent burnout, she discovered that specialised wellness technologies were often available at separate locations, making it difficult to combine different approaches within one setting.
Her interest in the sector became deeply personal following a traumatic brain injury shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic. During lockdown, she was introduced to red light therapy, an experience that strengthened her interest in the potential role of light-based wellness technologies and other complementary approaches to recovery.
This personal journey ultimately inspired her to bring different wellness experiences together under one roof, with the aim of creating a more integrated and personalised approach.
“It’s amazing what the body does when it’s given the tools to heal itself,” says Gomes. “We have developed different experiences that complement one another, so that people can focus on their individual needs rather than looking at each treatment in isolation.”
Gomes emphasises that Sandton Longevity Lounge is a wellness destination rather than a medical facility. Its focus is on supporting wellbeing, relaxation and recovery, rather than diagnosing or treating medical conditions.
A Portfolio Of Experiences Designed Around Individual Needs
Sandton Longevity Lounge offers a selection of wellness experiences that can be enjoyed individually or combined into personalised sessions, depending on an individual’s preferences and goals.
These include mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy, red light therapy, ozone sauna, infrared sauna, flotation therapy, ice baths, Kloud pulsed electromagnetic field therapy and Hyperice Normatec compression.
Rather than prescribing a single approach for everyone, the lounge aims to create a welcoming environment in which experiences can be tailored to individual preferences and wellness objectives.
Recovery Beyond The Sporting Arena
While athletes are an important part of the lounge’s client base, Gomes believes recovery has become increasingly relevant to people working in high-pressure corporate environments.
“Everyone is trying to be the perfect person in the office and at home, and if you have children, the perfect parent as well,” she explains. “You are trying to tick all the boxes, but there are only so many hours in a day. We are seeing corporate burnout, where people are constantly pushing themselves without making enough time to recover.”
The objective, she says, is to encourage people to think about wellbeing before exhaustion becomes overwhelming, rather than relying on an annual holiday to recover from an entire year of relentless activity.
By incorporating restorative experiences into a regular routine, individuals can make time to pause, switch off and focus on their overall wellbeing.
The lounge also welcomes active individuals, including those participating in demanding fitness programmes such as HYROX, as well as older adults and people seeking a more structured approach to relaxation and recovery.
Professional Athletes Put Recovery On The Agenda
The importance of consistent recovery is reflected in the experiences of professional athletes who have incorporated Sandton Longevity Lounge into their routines.
Professional padel player Tiaan Erasmus, who balances competing with playing and coaching, says making time for recovery has become increasingly important in maintaining his performance throughout the year.
“With playing, coaching and competing, I spend a lot of time on court, and it’s easy to just keep going,” says Erasmus. “Having Sandton Longevity Lounge as part of my routine has helped me make more time for recovery instead of only thinking about it when my body is already struggling.”
Erasmus highlights contrast therapy and mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy as experiences he particularly enjoys, noting the value of having dedicated time away from the court to focus on himself.
For professional rugby player Vusi Moyo, a Sharks and Springbok fly-half, recovery is equally important.
“Sandton Longevity Lounge has taught me that recovery is just as important as training,” says Moyo. “Looking after my body helps me stay consistent and perform at my best, especially during intense rugby periods.”
Moyo adds that feeling physically prepared helps him approach competition with greater confidence and focus, reinforcing the importance of balancing training, rest and recovery.
Investing In The Years Ahead
As conversations around longevity increasingly encompass lifestyle, performance and preventative wellbeing, Sandton Longevity Lounge is positioning itself as a destination for people looking to make their health and recovery a more consistent priority.
Its approach encourages individuals to move away from viewing wellness as an occasional indulgence and towards making time for it as part of everyday life. For Gomes, the ultimate ambition is straightforward: to help people feel energised, supported and better equipped to enjoy the lives they lead.
“We recharge our mobile phones every day, sometimes twice a day, but how often do we make time to recharge ourselves?” she asks. “We want people to have the energy and endurance to live life to the fullest, and to fall in love with life again.”
Located at 2A East Road, Morningside, Sandton, Longevity Lounge welcomes individuals interested in exploring its range of wellness experiences and beginning their own longevity journey.
