Johannesburg, 27 May 2026: Bedford Centre in Johannesburg has successfully wrapped up its celebration, marking 100 years since Bedfordview was officially named. The week-long festivities attracted hundreds of people, bringing families together while raising funds in support of the local community.
A Week of Celebration for Families
The activation opened in collaboration with the South African Cake Decorators Guild and Pick’n Pay, setting the tone for a vibrant start. Shoppers gathered to enjoy the cutting of a striking “100” letter cake, while children took part in complimentary cupcake decorating, adding colour and energy to the launch.
Throughout the celebration week, the Bedfordview Birthday Café transformed the Elegance Court into a lively café-style space where families could spend time together. Children enjoyed a range of hands-on activities, from decorating chocolate eggs into creative fondant designs to making mini pizzas with Pizza Perfect. The space was a hive of activity throughout the week, with a steady flow of families taking part in the experience.
Moment That Gave Back
Alongside the celebrations, the campaign has made a real difference to the area. A total of R8,770 was raised through entry fees, with all proceeds being donated to Better Bedfordview to support this organisation’s ongoing work in maintaining public spaces, strengthening safety initiatives and uplifting the area.
This builds on Bedford’s ongoing support of the organisation, with a monthly contribution of R25,000 towards initiatives that enhance the suburb for residents, businesses and visitors.
“This milestone was incredibly special for all of us,” says Linda Linnow, Centre Manager at Bedford Centre. “Bedfordview is a community with a rich history and a strong sense of connection. It was wonderful to see families come together to celebrate this moment, while also contributing to something that makes a real difference locally.”
As Bedfordview marks this milestone year, Bedford continues to play an active role in supporting and strengthening the community it serves.
